2001 Lifetime Achievement Award

Peter Main

This guy has helped sell Nintendo to the world since the early days of Nintendo of America. Over the years, he’s helped launch eight video game systems, almost all of them resounding successes. He’s got marketing savvy, style, grace and a grin like a Chesire Cat. He’s become so notorious, that somehow the Planet crew attached the “PETERMAINCO” nickname—perhaps because with Nintendo, Peter Main became an entity all his own. He’s certainly earned his retirement, though from what I understand he’s going to try some new things after some time off. Can’t keep a good man down I guess, and I offer my best and fondest congratulations to Mr. Main. – Max Lake

He's the man. I'm going to miss his descriptions of "Councils" and why Nintendo is really the market leader. – Steven Rodriguez

He may only be listed as a 6.4 on Hotornot.com but he's a 10 in my book! – Mike Sklens

Peter, thanks for always being cool to us, and to all Nintendo fans. Thanks for having weird pronunciations. Thanks for not suing us after the "Hot or Not" prank. Thanks for taking care of Billy in Japan. Thanks for realizing that video games are more fun to work with than toothpaste. I hope you'll still come to things like E3 so we can talk more. Regardless, you are a part of the Nintendo legend, and deservedly so. Enjoy the beach. – Jonathan Metts

A pattern among the staff. It's almost as if this answer was fixed. :) Peter Main is an excellent speaker all around, and functions as a perfect spokesman for Nintendo's business. His words are fewer, deliberate, and effective. He's going to be missed by this gang. – Mike Hrusecky

Peter Main makes me proud to be Canadian. He is in that category with our National hockey teams, our beer, and our women. You rock Peter, and though we all know your replacement will do one hell of a (Canadian) job, you'll always be our Sean Connery of the James Bond videogame life. – Mike Orlando

After watching Peter Main destroy the competition at the E3 keynote I must say that I was impressed. Come to find out, the guy has been working with Nintendo since 1982, and we should attribute a goodly portion of Nintendo's success in the American market to Main's work. He's also a very nice guy, who could ask for more? – David Trammell

I’ve gotten the chance to meet Peter Main a couple of times, and every time he has always taken the time to have a few words with us. It’s truly sad he’s leaving Nintendo, but his legacy will live on. Not only that but he really saved my butt at Spaceworld with my shoulder dislocation incident. Talk about doing your all for the Nintendophiles out there. Seriously though…Peter deserves this award. Congratulations PETERMAINCO! Good luck in the future. Whichever company snags you will be damn lucky. Enjoy the vacation…you deserve it! – Billy Berghammer
