This game came out of nowhere, and surprised MILLIONS when it proved that deep and involving RTS games could indeed be successful on such a small screen. Yet there are still many who have never played and have no idea that Advance Wars exists. It's one of the MUST BUY games of 2001, and the one that most people have yet to buy. – Rick Powers

Before AW came out, we had almost no idea that it was such a gem. Those who took a chance were delighted to find out just how good it was. It’s highly addictive and even fun for people who don’t usually enjoy strategy games. Everyone, let's thank Nintendo for waiting until the 8th game in the series before they finally decide to release something out here in the U.S. It's a damn shame that Nintendo, or any other publisher for that matter, doesn't try to take some risks and release some more of the less obscure Japanese games in North America. There's a reason I gave it such a glowing review. It's an elaborate game of chess and the AI doesn't ever back down. Intelligent Systems has outdone itself again with this incredibly deep, overloaded cart. It's the game that just doesn't end and by the K'Gara, it's quintessential Turn-Based Strategy. If you were to be locked away in a deep, dank (albeit well-lighted) dungeon cell, this would be the game that kept you from the brink of suicidal misery. The Advance campaign would most likely set you off into madness, but the depths of insanity is better than being bored, no? – Zosha Arushan
