Nintendo's breaking out the dust-busters in the GBA screen factories.

According to the Taipei Times, Nintendo has addressed Sharp Corporation, screen manufacturer for the Game Boy Advance, to clean up its act. Nintendo's biggest complaint is dust trapped in the screen of the unit, so they want Sharp to change their manufacturing process to help eliminate the entry of dust and other such debris into Game Boy Advance units. Nintendo would like to see all future GBA and GBA SP screens assembled in dust-free clean rooms.

Nintendo is also looking at manufacturers for the screen of the next Game Boy, deciding while looking at mock-ups from several companies. According to Tsuyoshi Kiyuna, a Nintendo engineer, "Screen quality is everything." They would like to see fewer washed-out colors in future screens, among other things. The only other requirement for the next Game Boy's screen is that it must consume equal or less power than the screen currently being used in the Game Boy Advance SP.

This is good news, while my GBA was fine, my GBASP had two specks of dust in it. A little annoying considering how I put an AfterBurner in my GBA and didn't get any dust in it at all (I screwed up the rest of the installation though face-icon-small-tongue.gif .)

I knew this already, yet this is still VERY good news. I bought a cobalt GBA SP and love it! So does my cousin-in fact, he likes it so much that he's going to get one in September. face-icon-small-smile.gif

I don't have any dust problems in either my GBA or GBA SP. I've checked and have seen nothing in mine that is distracting, or apparent. Or anything there for that matter.

Nintendo really needs to check into Kodak's OLED screens. It would be the perfect solution since they don't need any extra lighting (they produce their own light) and they have a very low power consumption. Not to mention they are very thin and are supposedly extremely durable. You can read more about OLED screens by clicking here.
