Courtesy of the Chicago Tribune, Steven Kent has contributed an article discussing the possible outcomes of the GameCube going online, and Miyamoto's opinions on the subject.

"Taking games online is one way of making them more interesting, of making games more fun," he said. "Just as moving from two controller ports on the Nintendo Entertainment System and Super NES to four on the Nintendo 64 [enhanced the games]. And GameCube was another way of making games more fun."

Yet while Nintendo's rivals are positioning their game platforms to work over the Internet, Nintendo has backed off from earlier decisions to release broadband and modem peripherals for its GameCube console.

Miyamoto also indulged some intriguing comments regarding Pikmin.

"In the end, Pikmin wasn't the kind of game that everybody could pick up and play easily," he said. "It turned out to be a game for people who are good at games. What I would like to see is games that are a relaxing play for anybody."

With insightful analogies regarding Nintendo's past success and their relation to the way the company is viewing the online nature of consoles gaming, the article is a great read. Click the link above to read the full article.
