Konami's Game!

Read the first news concerning Konami's first Dolphin game!

All a little dissapointed at NCL's reluctance to give any information on Dolphin or GBA this weekend? Don't be. Here it is, folks. First news from an official source reporting on an actual third party title for Nintendo's Dolphin. An investing/simulation title from Konami's new Bemani subdivision, Jumani, "Shinjuku Happy Jumpers " sounds to be... well, you decide what it sounds like. All that matters is it's a title, and it exists!

GameSpot News today found out what Konami's secret Dolphin project is. Often rumored to be a new Castlevania game - a Castlevania title this is not. Instead, it is an odd combination of a strategy-sim and a dancing game called Shinjuku Happy Jumpers.

As the first installment in Konami's new Bemani subdivision, Jumani, Shinjuku Happy Jumpers puts you in the dual role of stock-market manager/rescue-squad psychologist. It's your duty to manage the stock market to the rhythm of Caribbean calypso music and keep investors' spirits high. If you do a good job, you make more money, unlocking an additional day on the stock exchange as a reward for your efforts. If you start to do badly, investors will start jumping out of windows, in which case you must make up for your poor showing at the stock market by talking the suicidal investors off the ledge.

Via an onscreen "emotion guide," you can see how well you're doing. If you're doing badly, the meter will turn red (from it's neutral yellow), and the crowd gathered around the base of the building will begin to chant, "TO-BE, TO-BE!" which is the Japanese word for jump. Apparently the Japanese encourage this sort of thing. If you're doing well, your meter will be green, and the crowd will chant "I-KI-RU, I-KI-RU!" which is the Japanese term for "live" (as in "live another day, jerk!").

Shinjuku Happy Jumpers will apparently look something like Space Channel 5 in concept, with high-resolution FMV spooling off the DVD, while polygonal characters roam about the environments. As with all things Dolphin at this moment, we can't show you any screens, but as soon as we get some official details from Konami CET, we'll be sure to let you know.

That piece of news was taken from GameSpot (although the direct link was removed from the actual section early in the day... I wonder why...) earlier today. No shots, but a nice description (FMV backgrounds like Parasite Eve 2's...interesting.) As is, however, the actual game is unimportant. What is important is the fact that it, a third party software title, is being actively reported on. The once ominous wall of secrecy is slowly crumbling, and with news of software already leaking from the numerous cracks, it won't be long before Nintendo knocks it down completely (or at least partially, with enough news to keep us in Euphoria 'till August, and with it SpaceWorld.) More on this one soon, no doubt...
