Some notable Wii U titles were finally released in March.

March was a pretty good month. There wasn't so much in the way of news, but we got the great Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity and the pretty good Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon in that time frame (on the same day, no less!). The former is the slightly-flawed but ultimately superior entry in the spin-off franchise, and the latter is a sequel to the original Luigi's Mansion that some would argue surpasses it. March also brought PAX East, which is a fantastic gathering of video game fans and developers coming together out of their simple love for the craft. The experience is a fun and relaxing one, and it always results in a news story or two.

It pretty much goes without saying that Luigi's Mansion 2 was the highlight of March 2013, despite launching relatively late in the month. As a major advancement on basically every aspect of the original, it was all I could ask for in a sequel to Luigi's Mansion. That said, the release of Lego City Undercover and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate were bright spots in the Wii U's somewhat dry post-launch period.
Moreover, referring to the news in March, there were a couple of items worth remembering - while fairly quiet on new game announcements or information, we did witness Nintendo commit to some major updates to their services. We first heard of the multi-platform Miiverse plans in March, as well as the development-friendly web framework for Wii U. Given how static system features were in the previous generation, it was encouraging to see Nintendo willing to future-proof and open up their system to independent developers on a macro level.

March was a strange time of year for me as a Nintendo fan. On the one hand, I was still deep into Fire Emblem: Awakening and Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon released this month. The 3DS continued to entertain me.
On the console side of things, the Wii U let me down in March. The only Nintendo published game since launch, Lego City: Undercover, finally released. Sadly, it was also the last Nintendo published game for months. That said, this title also didn't do it for me and it left me craving for new games to play on my Wii U. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate also came out in March, but that game isn't my cup of tea either. With no games on the horizon, I was deep into the Wii U drought.
