Wii - Best Multiplayer

Nintendo World Report (finally) honors 2007's best games.

Wii has great potential as a multiplayer gaming system. Nintendo's own marketing reinforces this concept with images of "Wii Parties" taking place in nearly all of their ads. However, every year a few games really stand out for the fun they offer when a few people get together.

Wii - Best Multiplayer

The NWR Award

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock

Guitar Hero III delivers on several different levels as a multiplayer game. Most people only have the one guitar packaged with the game, which is just fine in many cases. But bring out GH3 at any party or social gathering, and you can bet that every person in the room will want to try it at least once. For getting everyone to play, regardless of age, sex, or gaming experience, the Guitar Hero series is right up there with Wii Sports. Of course, things get even better if you can find an extra guitar (likely brought over by another friend who also owns the game on Wii).

Several multiplayer modes are supported, including the new guitar battles with power-ups and attacks. You'll definitely want to play two-player matches on a newer copy of the game that has stereo support, since it helps to hear your guitar sounds coming out of your side of the speakers. An added feature for the Wii version lets you hear the dead "ping" of a missed note from your own guitar. Despite some mistakes from Activision regarding audio bugs and late availability of extra controllers, Guitar Hero 3 is a great multiplayer game even if you have to take turns all night long.

Runner-up: WarioWare: Smooth Moves

The WarioWare series has always been known for its crazy "microgames". With the exception of the GameCube entry, the series has generally been a one player affair. Nintendo remedied this situation with the release of WarioWare: Smooth Moves. Making creative use of the Wii Remote, Smooth Moves isn't just fun to play; it's also fun to watch others play. The variety of multiplayer modes gives nearly endless opportunities to watch friends and family make fools of themselves. For being a true multiplayer WarioWare game, Smooth Moves is our runner-up for best multiplayer game of 2007.
