Wii - Best Graphics

by James Jones - March 6, 2008, 1:05 pm EST

Nintendo World Report honors 2007's best games.

The Wii isn't the most powerful system on the block, but we still expect our games to look nice. 2007 had more than a few games that really turned heads.

Wii - Best Graphics

The NWR Award

Super Mario Galaxy

Take one look at the universe (literally) that Miyamoto-san has created, and you’ll be knocked out of your chair. Planetoids, black holes, asteroids, stars, and tons of intricate structures dot the celestial horizon in every direction. Stunning lighting effects give new depth to old foes, and every piece of galactic real estate is brimming with color. Mario and Co. dip, duck, dive, and dodge with a new level of fluidity. Super Mario Galaxy wins in the graphics category simply because you cannot take your eyes off the screen. Every second brings a gorgeous new sight, and we can’t get enough eye candy.

Runner-up: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

While Galaxy could rest its laurels on an entire universe, Corruption put its time into detailed individual worlds. While only five planets are represented, I dare you to find one overlooked detail, one repeated room, or one boring landscape. Metroid Prime 3: Corruption features an unparalleled sense of scale and a devotion to the little things that deserves commendation. Whether you’re screw-jumping across an icy chasm, winding your way across the empty space between floating cityscapes, or raising hell on the Space Pirate homeworld, the visuals in Corruption never fail to impress.
