As the Nintendo World Report staff prepares for E3, they find some time to make a few predictions.
As a first-time E3 visitor, I am very excited about this year's expo. Last year's press conference focused way too much time on casual games, like Wii Music and Shaun White Snowboarding, and I think Nintendo will try to cater this E3 more towards its dedicated fans.
Nintendo has a history of being very unpredictable at E3. Nobody could have guessed that Miyamoto's flagship title at E3 2003 [Pac-Man vs] would be based on a Namco property. These are my E3 predictions for the Big N:
- Pikmin 3
- A new Paper Mario sequel called Paper Luigi
- A Miyamoto Designed Wii MotionPlus Game that stars Yoshi
- New Play Control! Super Mario Sunshine
- A Wii Fit expansion pack that has more exercises and balance games
- Sin & Punishment 2 will have online leaderboards
- Mario Paint DSi
- Nintendo will compare The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks to Majora's Mask
I also expect there to be some wonderful announcements from the third party developers. Here are my predictions:
- Peggle for DSiWare
- Another 2D Castlevania title on either DS or Wii
- Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles will play better than Dead Space: Extraction
- A new Wii FPS from EA or Konami
- Red Steel 2 will be voted the best third party Wii game at E3
- Multiple third parties will announce their old games are coming to VC
Finally, I would love for Super Mario Galaxy 2 to show up at E3, but I simply don't think it has the best chances. Nintendo hasn't released two full-fledged Mario platform games on the same home console since the Super Nintendo, and while it makes sense financially I think Miyamoto and company will wait until they have a great new idea. At least Atari and Sega will probably announce Super Monkey Marble Madness.
