Anime for all, strategy RPGs for some.
This week's download slate is a tad light for North America. Perhaps the biggest deal is either the Azure Striker Gunvolt anime now being available to purchase on 3DS, with your choice of subs and / or dubs to perfectly bridge that debate. Also, there's a crossbuy planting game in the form of Plantera for those who have both a Wii U and a 3DS available.

15,000 people will get to stand in some very long lines.
The biggest North American gaming trade show is throwing their doors open to the public.
The Entertainment Software Association announced today that the June 13-15 show will have a limited number of tickets sold for entry. 15,000 tickets will be made available on Monday, February 13 at a early-bird cost of US$150 for the three days. Should any tickets be left, the price will increase to $250.

A large dump of multiplayer Switch goodness near the end of the month.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will have some competition in the multiplayer Switch space when it launches.
Sega confirmed today in a press statement that Puyo Puyo Tetris would release on the Switch April 25 for North America, and April 28 for Europe. The digital version will be US$29.99, while a physical version will be available for $39.99 that includes specially designed keychains.

A surprisingly explosive list this close to Day One.
This week, the manatees have bestowed upon us the last 3DS retail game for several weeks as Poochy and Yoshi's Woolly World releases. Come for the really cute animated shorts, stay for a quality port of a game that was actually #2 on my 2015 all-format GOTY list. (And check out Daan's review if you're on the fence.) Poochy Amiibo sadly not included with the download version, but sold separately.

The Nikkei newspaper appears to have nailed down a price range for the Switch's online service.
Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima was asked about the online service cost in an interview with Nikkei, and he confirmed the annual cost would be between 2000 and 3000 yen (roughly US$18 - $27).

Nintendo is going all out with Switch advertising, including an ad on the biggest US television program of the year.
There will be an advertisement for the Switch during the 4th quarter of this Sunday's Super Bowl LI. According to Variety, the cost of the spot is between US$5 and $5.5 million for a broadcast that has attracted the seven largest TV audiences in US history and 19 of the top 20.

Following the release of their 3rd quarter financials, Nintendo held a Corporate Strategy meeting this morning (Japan time) which provided some additional clarification on sales and news.
To date, Super Mario Run has been downloaded 78 million times, with more than 5% of downloads becoming full purchases...

Look for it in April at the earliest.
Fire Emblem Heroes will be the final mobile project Nintendo will release this fiscal year.
In a brief statement as part of their earnings today, Nintendo confirmed the unnamed Animal Crossing mobile project would be delayed past March 31, 2017. No specific reason was given for the delay.

Did Pokémon cause big bucks, or is the final Switch push a whammy?
The holiday quarter with the release of Pokémon Sun and Moon was a lucrative one for Nintendo, and the company produced an operating profit as a result.
As well, Nintendo did announce an increase in their profit expectation for the full fiscal year, though the Animal Crossing mobile project was delayed out of fiscal 2017.

Playtonic has revealed the options for backers of Yooka-Laylee who requested a Wii U version before the game was moved to Switch.
The platform choice survey for console backers will be live soon, and Playtonic has confirmed that a Switch version will be available after the launch of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions. Backers who initially selected the Wii U version will have the following option:

No matter which side of the Atlantic you're on, there's something rare this week.
The eShops are light this week as we move over closer to Switch Day One. The eShop releases are all for 3DS, as we have the latest bit of Lightwood Studios wordplay and a follow-up to Quiet, Please! in the same mold. Honestly, the biggest non-VC release of the week might be Pokémon Bank's Sun and Moon updates.

The last game is a player's choice.
Super Smash Bros for Wii U and Super Smash Bros Melee will be returning for a 3rd consecutive year at EVO 2017.
The mascot fighters will be a part of a 9-game main field for the world's largest fighting game tournament, to be held July 14-16 in Las Vegas, NV. Joining the Smashes will be Street Fighter V, King of Fighters XIV, BlazBlue Central Fiction, Injustice 2, Guilty Gear XrD Revelator (Rev 2) and Tekken 7.

Pokémon Duel, a new free-to-play Pokémon board game, has launched on iOS and Android in the US and Europe.
The game pits two six-Pokémon teams against each other on a grid. Players choose attacks by spinning a disc, similar to attacking in the Pokémon Trading Figure Game. Battles are fought against AI instructors or live players online. Unwanted Pokémon can be fused together to create stronger team members.

The long-awaited Pokémon Bank update to allow for Sun and Moon access is now live.
The main Bank update will require 496 blocks, while Poké Transporter (the companion app for games prior to X and Y) will require 420 blocks. The updates allow for Pokémon Sun and Moon access and transfer of Pokémon from last February's Virtual Console Pokémon releases to Sun and Moon, respectively.

Switch Day One is growing with three more titles coming from Tomorrow Corporation.
The indie publisher announced today that versions of World of Goo, Little Inferno and Human Resource Machine would all release on the Switch March 3 - the system's launch day. Each release will include a Soundtrack Mode.

A new New 3DS XL is launching days before the Switch.
Nintendo announced the Pikachu Yellow Edition New 3DS XL for release on Feb. 24.
The system will sell for the standard $199.99 in the US and does not include a game.
The Nintendo Switch, Nintendo's new console, launches on March 3 for $299.99.

I Am Setsuna is coming to Switch at launch as a digital download, according to SquareEnix.
The retro JRPG is the first game from SquareEnix's new Tokyo RPG Factory, a studio focused on “mixing the spirit of the past with technologies of today.” The Switch version will have exclusive new features including the ability to battle other players' parties.
