I like to mix my drinks, but not with anything too sweet.  The only time I'll do that is if the vodka is incredibly cheap.  But I usually do a Jack and Coke, but SoCo works great there, too.  They're also both great with tea.  I took some Lipton Blackberry flavored black tea with the SoCo and some lemon propel. I felt great the next day.

Fat tire is a good beer & there are other beers that i do enjoy like a tall Pyramid Hefenwiezen. But trust me, if they started selling them in 2 Liter bottles for $5.99 w/ no alcohol you wouldn't be buying them.

I recently had belvedere and tea and I must say, it was fire. I love tea already, but wow...it was amazing.

Maybe...Maybe not...

I definitely don't drink soft drinks so you may be on to something.

Svedka.....maybe if you like vodka, but I usually buy that for the bitches.

Psh.  Vodka tonic with a twist of lime.If your drink needs to burn to prove you're a man you're doing something wrong.

This.

Svedka.....maybe if you like vodka, but I usually buy that for the bitches.

Psh.  Vodka tonic with a twist of lime.  If your drink needs to burn to prove you're a man you're doing something wrong.

Proving you're a man has nothing to do with it. I find that I don't over drink when I drink it straight. Unlike most people, I don't go out to drink or to get hammered; I go out to socialize. And when I reach the peak where I can socialize and articulate the best, having straight liquor in a glass to sip on plateaus that peak. In other words, it helps me catch a buzz and coast.

Oh i see. Its the opposite for me, because I'd rather have some mixed drink that no ones ever heard of (conversation starter) and sip on that because :

a. depending on the type of mixed drink I'm having, its MUCH cheaper to have the ONE mixed drink to get/start the buzz than it is to have several straight drinks.*

b. I'd rather spend my money on something I'd enjoy; ie I'm secure enough with my sexuality to order up a "fruity" drink (as one would say it in the derogatory sense) and not something that someone else would  order to look tough, because i don't need my throat to be on fire when I'm out trying to have fun.

c. did i mention its more social? girls flock to a crazy looking drink and just HAVE to ask whats in it, and eventually taste it. When they say it doesn't even taste alcoholic, you've got yourself a new friend for the night :)

I hate mixing liquor, especially with sweet sugary stuff. That's just asking for a headache and a hangover.

probably because you're having too much of it? I know I've mentioned this before on the forums but here it goes again:

a sweet sugary drink will get you drunk quicker than drinking something straight, because of the sugar. according to my teachers in the bartending course i took, drinking from a straw seems to get it done EVEN quicker but i don't like straws so i can't say.
Anyway, unless your local bartenders are ripping you off, you get the same amount of alcohol in a mixed drink as you do if you ask for it straight so whatever the balance is, you're not diluting the effects of the alcohol just the flavor.

As someone who just recently turned 21 who has plans to go out Friday night I feel like I should be taking notes on this thread.

Congrats! PM me if you have any questions ;)

I don't drink soda (except on rare occasions) & I don't eat sweets (also except on rare occasions).
I prefer anything I drink (courvosier is my drink of choice) to be on the rocks. & the thing about liquor and ice, is that it melts it pretty quickly and that melted ice takes the bite off (or the burn).

Insanolord: 1 Rule to remember
Beer before liquor, never sicker. Liquor before beer, in the clear. But thats only if you are a beginning drinker.
There is no need to take your questions to PM, you can ask them right here. I'm sure we have many different kinds of drinkers with many different taste that could all help you get to where your trying to go. As long as your not driving ;)

Some Advice:
Good Mix drink to start a night Chambored(Rasberry) Ice Tea. Its strong enough for a man and sweet enough for the women. 2-3 of those and you're good for the night.

I understand your points, but fruity drinks are not for me. That's where we differ; I don't like sugar and most of the drinks just add a **** load of sugar. If I want a mixed drink, I usually go for tonic.

Really, covering up the alcohol taste isn't beneficial for me, you know? Something about tasting the full body of the alcohol interests me. I wouldn't cover up the taste of wine, or saki, so why would I cover up the taste of my cognac, scotch, or bourbon?

Besides, if I want something delicious, I'll grab a beer.

Also, I FUCKING HATE when random girls take sips out of my drink. I don't know where your lips have been! Get your own! Plus, I don't think having a cool looking drink makes you cool. I actually think it's the opposite. Think about it, if you saw two cute girls and one was wearing just a simple, but classy black dress and the other was wearing a crazy designed, rhine stone studded dress; which one would you rather talk to?

I like subtly and girls do to.

As someone who just recently turned 21 who has plans to go out Friday night I feel like I should be taking notes on this thread.

Congrats man! Make sure not to pay for ****! And never, ever ever ever take the bar shot. It's always something fucking terrible.

My advice to you is just to have fun and go with the flow.

See, I'm the exact opposite--I get drunk a lot faster drinking straight alcohol.  When I have a glass in my hands I tend to drink from it.  I don't know if it's just a nervous habit or what, but I can't go more than minute without taking a sip if I'm holding a glass or if there's one right in front of me.

If I drink straight alcohol I drink more because it's gone in only a few sips.  By using a mixer (or just drinking beer) the drink lasts a lot longer.

As someone who just recently turned 21 who has plans to go out Friday night I feel like I should be taking notes on this thread.

DRINK WATER.  There's no shame in having a glass of water in between alcoholic drinks.  Especially if you're a beginner.  A good rule of thumb would be to have a full glass of water every 2 or 3 drinks.  It will keep you hydrated, let you stay sober long enough to remember the night and reduce the hangover the next morning.

I couldn't agree more, & I find my cognac delicious. Its pretty much all I drink when I go out.

THIS. THIS. M#*&^!F(*&^! THIS. I'm not really a germ-a-phobe, but my rule is , If I wouldn't kiss you, why would I drink after you? get a cup or go get your own. for real.

& I also think I'm gonna have to agree here too. You can keep your bright red concoction with the neon green swirl served in a tall daiquiri glass with the cherries with pirate swords stabbed through them and an umbrella next to a lime skin slinky a orange slice and a crazy straw. Just hand me a Vosey on the rocks... make it a double & I'm happy.

Thats what the ice is for ;)

seriously though, tall glass of water before you goto sleep & you minimize chances for a hangover.
hangovers are mostly dehydration & lots of sugary liquor will cause you a headache.

i think you both took my post WAY out of context there and started throwing in your own ideas. I never said i'd let a stranger take a drink from my glass, because i never would especially since i normally do all my drinking in Manhattan and people in the city are just too damn weird. Nor did i say i'd drink anything with an umbrella etc etc lol. That whole bit about subtlety is BS too since i'm not going out of my way to show off my drink.

As for vudus comments on the sugary drinks, theres ways of getting a relatively sweet drink without going for something loaded with sugar (such as drinks mixed with sodas). Then, as for the beer comment, i still havent had a beer that i thought tasted good. I'll be honest, i don't try them enough because i can never remember what beers are recommended to me.. and when i do the places i go never seem to have them, so i tend to just stick to my liqour.

I'll agree with everyone elses advice though. Theres a pretty diverse crowd of drinkers here so whichever way Insanolord wants to go with his night out, we all got you covered man. Just make sure you go out and have a blasts with no regrets!

Thanks for the advice guys. I turned 21 a couple months back but all my friends hadn't so I never went out. All I've had is a few beers which I hated except the one I had Saturday. My best friend turned 21 Saturday and he loves the sweet drinks but that doesn't seem like my kind of thing. That water tip makes a lot of sense and I probably wouldn't have thought of that on my own.

I almost always have some sort of sports drink before bed after drinking, unless I sober up. I feel like the electrolytes in the drink help a **** ton.  That being said, some of my friends enjoy a bit of vodka or rum in their gater/powerades.

Also, any carbonation will help you get drunk faster, but watch out for redbull + vodka.  Too much and you'll be out of it.  The caffeine makes your heart beat faster spreading the alcohol through your blood at a much higher rate.  The danger here is that dehydration also works faster in those circumstances.

Well we can always order you a Shirley Temple...(thats non alcoholic right?)
But I understand the not having to do it to enjoy the company of those that are, but I find that alcohol is not one of those things. I hate being the sober one around a bunch of drunk people. But I have had friends do other things that shall go unmentioned (I think Pale is lurking) and we would be having a great time till whenever things would finally die down, which was usually not too long after the liquor would run out. They would always wonder how I was still up & drinking with them. I would sometimes wonder too, guess I would just feed off of their energy or something.
