I was truly hoping they would create a story mode to play like the original Turtle games, that would be the smartest decision they could make.
I kind of hope that don't try to. The Konami games last gen were mediocre at best and failed to capture the original arcade games (TMNT II *arcade and NES*, TMNT III and TMNT IV). Even the TMNT movie game for GBA, which was okay, didn't really live up to the arcade games legacy.
The reason why the newer Konami games failed was because that while they were, at heart, a button masher, the arcade games brought more depth into the stages and the surprises that came in them. No two stages played the same. Let's take two examples: the burning building stage from TMNT 2 and the first stage from TMNT 2003 (the first GCN game). The burning building had Foot Soliders come from the sides of the screen, but also busted down doors, coming out of elevators, hiding behind the side of the stairwell and throwing bombs, and you had to watch out for cannon balls falling down the stairs, and if you had two or more players in the arcade version, falling debris from the ceiling. The TMNT 2003 game did have the falling sewer roof debris and exploding cars, but that was it. The things that made the stages and enemies stand out in the original games were gone. The enemy placement was awful, as they just...appeared. No fancy entrances or anything, they just faded in.
Hopefully UbiSoft commisions Good Feel for a new TMNT game. Ex-Konami employees could do the franchise justice, if it ever happens that is.
