I have always felt that Sony is basically gambling this generation on Blu-ray. Anyone have any idea how that's going? I've heard a couple of interesting tidbits...Blu-ray is supposedly outselling HD-DVD quite handily right now, and I guess Casino Royale was in the top 10 video sales in it's week...achieving sales records that took DVD a year or two, supposedly.
Outselling HD-DVD doesn't mean much on its own, maybe there were only 25 HD-DVD units sold last month. The Casino Royale thing is more interesting: on the one hand, you could argue that it only sold so well because of the early PS3 adopters. On the other hand, you could argue that PS3 promoting Blu-ray sales is exactly what Sony wanted. At the end of the day, the big question is whether or not this will translate into success for the Blu-ray format as a whole. If so, PS3 could stage a comeback eventually.
