I'm an idiot...

My mistake...

And for the record, I completely agree with you. Nintendo's next effort will be truly amazing, and it's a shame that they are focusing so much unneeded attention on TP.

The Wii controller doesn't seem to fit well with Mario.  Mario never really throws or shoots anything... he doesn't use his hands to manipulate anything.  Unless there is a major gimmick like the water pack, I don't see mush use for the motion sensing capabilities of Wii (I'm not saying that a gimmick is a bad thing)...
Zelda is a much better fit.

There was nothing "cool" about Wind Waker's sword fights.  ...well, okay, they were a little cool, but picture the fight between Inigo Montoya and the Man in Black from the Princess Bride. Now, replace their moves with the moves from a fight in Wind Waker. Pretty boring, no?

ANYWAY. I was about to comment on how mainstream Wii must be, to get an article in Time....then I remembered the 360 got a cover story. Oh well.

What's been described sounds really, really good...especialy Wario Ware.

...Still don't quite understand how sports games will work though. You have to put your whole body into a tennis swing, how do you do that on a Wii? I guess you'll just mime toned-down versions of the actions, like you're talking about tennis at dinner, or something. But then, where and how does your on-screen character break from your own movements?

The controller will be much lighter than a racket and it won't be hit by a ball moving at 60MPH, so making the same motions as in real tennis will take much less force.

For whom? Certainly not the non-gamer, and the Zelda die hard fans are going to get the console anyway, so theres no need to do this, there never was, but Nintendo is still cramming these controls in a game that shouldnt have them.

I agree that Nintendo should show something else as it's "big" Wii demo.  I think a game designed for Wii right from the start (see Metroid Prime 3, Super Smash Bros., Red Steel, or the Tennis game) would probably make for a much more exciting demo.  I hope they get some players who can really make fools out of themselves for the demos.  I'm looking forward to trying out Twighlight Princess on Wii, but I'm not sure it can live up to a Zelda game built for Wii from the ground-up.

These game announcements really have me anticipating the rest now!  I can't wait to see all the games Nintendo has planned!

Well... the Zelda die hard fan would get the console eventually, but not necessarily at launch. He'd likely wait until a Zelda game was actually released for the Wii, which might've been a couple years into the console's life. Having more early adopters is a big part of getting third parties on board, and the really die hard Zelda fan might feel the need to get a Wii just so he can "Replay TP" with the new controller.

It's a risk though. It's possible some of the very interested people who don't own a Cube yet might not buy TP at launch and just wait for the Wii to come out. And by then it's possible TP will have a price drop.

I think Mantidor is just mad that they "wasted" time on the new controls.

About Jasonditz's comment on a Zelda price drop: I don't think Zelda will be released that far in advance of the Wii, and Nintendo usually gives games a good year (at least) on the market before dropping the price.  I don't think there will be much opportunity lost there.

There's no reason to gripe about anything until you've played the game.

Why do you think that Parry moves and the spin attack can't exist with the new controller.

I think you could easily set those to motion controls.  The Spin Attack could require you to hold the sword back behind you for 2-3 seconds and then move it towards the screen.

Bingo.

Parries could be done by now actually reflecting attacks with the sword and not the shield...once you do that you can thrust in to attack...

Or still have the A button be for context sensitive moves, and perhaps you can get in close connect a hit and push A to string it into a combo.

Simple.

Holy crap!

You just made me think of something Spak.

Since the Nunchuck attachment can sense movement, could you in fact control link's shield as well as his sword at the same time?

I'd think it would be more likely that you could use the accelerometers in the analogue attachment to do the strafe-jumps/dodges and backflips.  But parrying attacks with the shield jerking the analogue attachment in a particular direction would work as well, come to think of it... I just don't think that we'll see full-fledged or smooth control over the shield, as the accelerometers most likely won't allow such control.

Maybe, but if the Wii titles look head-and-shoulders superior to the Gamecube titles, and we've already heard that Wii titles will be retailing for $50... it might be a harder sell to charge full price for a "last-gen" title.

It's ok.  The Wii is a repackaged FlopCube -- it's nonpowered to display nongames with nongraffiks.  TP has nothing to worry about.

I don't think a price-drop is as likely as a coupon or some special deal to buy TP that comes with the Wii.
