Nintendo Gaming / RE: Sonic Wii
« on: June 10, 2006, 03:06:09 PM »
The 8 and 16 Bit games were great, ALL the Sonic game after those were very, very, very bad.
Sonic Wildfire looks like a possible good game. Sonic The hedgehog for Ps3/and 360 looks like another failure...

Psychonauts was a fun game but i doubt that Nintendo will have a Xbox emulator in the Wii.
Strange topic.........

they are toy-like creatures. it's not that hard to give Pikachu fur. Just look at donkey Kong Jungle Beat and Starfox adventures.
They chose this toy-look, and frankly i think it looks great. and i don't even like pokemon...

Still excited, just doubtful about certain things.  We'll see.

well, other than the fact that samus runs/walks like she just crapped her pants, it looks inetresting to me. I was getting a bit bored with the prime series to be hounest and i was hoping for a bit of a change.

they use bloom effects to hide the low res textures, and that is working allright for me. It's a very unique and pretty style

No, it doesn't look bad at all. I wish that more Wii developers will put the same kind of effort in their graphics.
I can't understand how you thought the character graphics looked bad.. were you watching highly compresed clips?
Such an improvement over mario sunshine!

I do think this game has a lot of potential. I gues/ hope that the graphics are very, very early
stage. If not, then this is one sorry ass game. But i think we'll all have to trust the developper. I can't imagine him delivering a bad (or bad looking) game.

Jungle beat was a fun game. With the Wii i think a lot of games are goning to be more arcade style.

Wow, I'll have to disagree with a lot of the things you said, Mario.. "Nothing new"? "A disaster"?

Firstly, how much more can you do with the Mario platformer formula while keeping it intuitive? Even with the jump to SM64, it was, at its core, the same basic game. Analogue control perfected platforming motion in the 3D world, and now, even with the new controller, not much can be improved on. This is exactly why, even though the development team tried many different things with the controller, Miyamoto overruled it since they didn't make controlling Mario any more intuitive. In fact, it was the opposite. Thinking about it, this is really the first console Nintendo has ever made whose control scheme is not tailored for a Mario game. The NES, well, we all know about Mario's escapades on it. The SNES was an extension. Mario 64 was a pioneer in analogue control, with the 64 controller. Then the GameCube, another extension, was the best controller for platformers, bar none. The Wii, on the other hand, is not designed specifically for a game like Mario, but instead opens the door to many other genres. So you want a "radically different" Mario? Well, now that would be a disaster..

And even with these limitations, Galaxy still uses the controller beautifully while staying true to its roots. It's the perfect balance of traditional platforming and new, innovative use of the controller without overusing it just for the novelty.

I'm also going to thoroughly disagree with you about the fact that you could be playing this on the GameCube. Graphics aside, did you watch the videos? Specifically the one with the Spider boss.. Tell me with a straight face that that can be done well with a GameCube controller. And this is just a glimpse of the ideas that Miyamoto has running through his head. There will no doubt be other brilliant ways that unlock the potential of the controller in Galaxy without utilising it in excess.

Mario Galaxy is my most anticipated game. I haven't felt this longing for a game since the 64 era. It does everything I expected and more, with some awesome additions. A platformer is extremely difficult to translate to this new control scheme, yet Miyamoto has found a way again. I just don't understand your concerns, Mario; I don't think you want a Mario game at all by the sounds of it, rather a completely new game with a new concept.

Couldn't agree more. I want it I want it I want it.....

I love the look of Super Mario Galaxy.  The planets, the altered gravity, the pointer aspect, the beautiful art, the sound and music, and everything else.  And I've only seen about ten minutes of gameplay, if that.
This is my most anticipated game.  It adds tons of new stuff to the basic Mario concept, far more than Super Mario Sunshine, and it's being done very gracefully.  I just love the creative energy behind this game.  So much potential.

I wouldn't mind either way, if this were a new game or something we haven't seen in Galaxy.  There's nothing unbelievably new in Mario, nothing that will totally change gaming as we know it.
But has that even happened since Mario 64?  Or maybe earlier, the original Donkey Kong game?  Neither of those even seemed like that much of a leap, either.

Don't expect too much.  Galaxy looks like enough for me, more than enough.  It looks incredible.  And if something else is coming too, that's great.  But this has me excited enough as is.

I totally agree. Mario looks exactly like it (and sunshine) should look. and expect some exciting new gameply too. this game has had a devellopment time of five years or even more. For me, this is my most anticipated game also (and probably Zelda TP)

I appreciate the shout out BnM.

I've been thinking about the friend codes and how they could potentially become your WiiPhone number.

If Nintendo figured out a way for you to automatically give out the new friend codes you register on your Wii to your friends, I doubt there would be such a fuss. Having one friend code would be great, but it's not possible with the current setup. So basically, once you get your new game, you plug the numbers into your profile, then it automatically sends it out to your friends and updates their profiles. You can also manage which friends get your new code and which don't. This will be useful just in case you make a friend in SSBB, but you don't want them to burn your Animal Crossing village. Or simply, if you don't trust your friend haha.

Hmmm....

If the WiiPhone is true, and if they somehow allow yout keep a profile that features the ability to auto-update friends code, it would rival Xbox Live.

You will only have to enter a friend code once. Then you can simply click on the friends name the next time and the call will be made (like Skype). Communication during online gaming would be great! But i do think a headset would be needed. To talk into the wiimote, and listen and play with it at the ame time.... i don't know

Oh. Sounds cool. I was tempted to get one a while back as you see loads of PC projectors on eBay which I guess you could use together with a TV capture card but the cost of bulb replacement and loud fan noise kind of put me off the idea. Also there's a risk of lag with a TV capture card which makes gaming impossible (I found this out trying to use my laptop as a screen for my Cube via a USB capture card). I'm guessing since you have component input you're using a projector designed for TV use?

Actually, no. I don't want to use it to watch television (oh wel, maybe to watch a few soccer matches during the world cup). I watch my dvd's with it (=fantastic), i play games on it (including nes games) an sometimes i watch some photographes from my laptop. I have the Panasonic PT 900Ae. The fan noise is actually pretty low... Bulb replacement is a fact indeed. But that's after 5000 hours. That's a lot of dvd's and games.
I also think that in time i'll but a PS3 or a 380 for HD DVD.  (and HD games ofcourse), but for now, i just want a Wii. I just think that Nintendo games are great fun.
