"The window of opportunity is barely open to do this and yet Nintendo has not capitalized with the MMORPG that everyone's been asking for."
The MMO stuff is a relatively recent idea. The original game everyone wanted back on the N64 was a 3D Pokemon RPG that played like the Gameboy games with going to gyms, capturing Pokemon, etc. The time to have released this was early in the Cube's life, around 2002 or so. At that point the craze was still reasonably strong and it would have sold Cubes like hotcakes. The Xbox would NEVER have pulled ahead that Christmas if they had this game on the Cube. Instead Pokemon Colloseum came out way too late and although technically an RPG it was completely devoid of all the elements that make Pokemon fun and is one of the most frustratingly bad games I've ever played. Nintendo blew it. They had the perfect killer app and now it's too late for it to quite have the same punch it would have had a few years ago.
Not that they shouldn't ever release such a game. It would still sell really well and every killer game helps. The way Nintendo has handled Pokemon has been very non-Nintendo like. Normally they seem to recognize the importance of making really phenomenal sequels and not relying entirely on a franchise name to attract sales. But with Pokemon they've released all sorts of substandard junk and although Gold/Silver was awesome they phoned it in with the GBA Pokemon games. They've handled Pokemon more like how I would expect EA to handle a franchise.
Pokemon Battle Revolution looks nice anyway and I'm glad they're not doing any BS where the seperate Stadium into two games and try to sell junk like Pokemon Box as a seperate game. I've never liked how Nintendo has handled Pokemon but they did a WAY better job with it during the N64 days than the Cube days so if they're going back to the N64 way of doing things that's an improvement. Plus it's kind of cool that this game is coming out so soon. They've got a lot of stuff in the works for the Wii.
