Biggest Disappointment

by the NWR Staff - January 16, 2003, 7:58 pm EST

Our second annual Louie Awards are finally done. See what our staff picked for the best and worst of 2002.

Louie Award 2002

Biggest Disappointment

Lack of Online Support for GameCube

“Nintendo likely has online games in the works, but it is well behind the starting gate, and online play is selling more Xboxes and PS2s every day.” – Michael “TYP” Cole

“This is easily the biggest remaining hole in Nintendo’s strategy, and it should have been filled by now. Games like NFL2k3, Madden 2003, and Tony Hawk 4 could have easily included online play on the GameCube, if Nintendo had simply allowed it and given some support to the developers.” – Jonathan Metts

“One online game, which is an enhancement of an old Dreamcast game, that I need to pay a monthly fee for?” – Mike Orlando

“Nintendo blew it in the online realm in ’02. Let’s pray that they turn it around in 2003.” – Billy Berghammer
