Rick Powers's thank yous

by the NWR Staff - May 31, 2002, 2:29 pm EDT

Thanks and foremost to Billy, for once again being just the great guy he is. He gives more for PGC than anyone knows, and I only caught a glimpse of that once everyone was gone. Brother, if you don't get a job in this industry, a huge injustice is being done.

Thanks to Perrin Kaplan for her little tip during the press conference. I've been told that the footage came out pretty well, and hopefully our readers will enjoy seeing it as much as we did.

Thanks to Adam, Mike K., and Shigeru Miyamoto for the most amazing thing I think I've ever seen. We ruv you too, Shiggy. Bling, bling!

Thanks to George Harrison for taking the time to chat with a couple awestruck fans, we know you were a busy guy and had people to talk to, and that made the introductions even more special.

Thanks to Lifehouse for being one of the best live bands I've seen and thanks to Smashmouth for putting on one of the most irreverent "corporate concerts" I've ever seen. Those guys know how to tear the house down.

Thanks to Steven Kent for being one of the most down-to-earth journalists I've met, and taking time to play a little Monkey Ball with PGC. (I have the picture to prove it, thanks Chris!)

Thanks to Seamus Blackley for putting off that beer for a couple of minutes and chatting with me. A genuinely funny guy with a terrific attitude, here's hoping CEG can do some good in the industry. Next time, the free beer is on me.

Kudos to the Pioneer guys for trying their damnedest to get me hooked on that 47" plasma screen. Seriously, I would have brought one home if I didn't have a wife to answer to. But hey, send me a "review" unit, and I'll be sure to give it a thorough thrice-over.

Thanks to Bakudan for the righteous Japanese translations on our business cards. That made my day on more than one occasion. Miyamoto saying your name in perfect English is awe-inspiring.

Thanks to Mike Hrusecky for taking one for the team in the worst way possible. I'm sorry you couldn't be there with us all, but you really stepped up to the plate and took care of business for us. Tell your employer that in our group picture, my middle finger is for them.

Thanks to Nathan for getting me the coolest "meet 'n' greet" of all time. Now if I could have only been there for it ... don't worry, I'll let you make it up to me. ;)

Thanks to Daniel Bloodworth for turning out better than anyone had expected. I don't know how we could have ever doubted you, or how we didn't hire you sooner. Double the thanks for arranging the group trip to catch Star Wars in DLP. You are THE man. The very, very TALL man.

Thanks to the staff of the Comfort Inn for putting up with our antics for yet another year, and to Sylvia for just being a sweetheart.

Thanks to BreakyGirl for letting us see E3 through her eyes. You can never get back your first E3 experience, but the look on her face got us pretty close.

Thanks to Chris Olmstead and the Team Nintendo Crack Security Force for giving me a great E3 story to bring home. Way to protect your assets, guys!

Thanks to Beth Llewellyn for doing her job like a true Jedi. Mental Note: Mind Tricks only work on the WEAK minded ... It's pointless to try to get Beth to say anything she's not ready to say.

Thanks to our outstanding staff for hitting the bricks and getting 70 (!) impressions posted by the end of the show, and more afterwards. You guys rocked my ass this year. I can't wait to do it again.

I know I'm leaving out people, but this E3 was my best yet and everyone I met helped make it that way. But lastly, thanks to my beautiful wife, without who's consideration and understanding I wouldn't have been in LA this year. I love you, sweetheart!
