Nintendo World Report (finally) honors 2007's best games.

2007 was the best year in ages for Nintendo fans. Publishers have taken notice of Nintendo's success and the results are becoming tangible. You all know where this is going, but I think you'll be surprised by the runner-up. The fact is there were so many good games it was very hard to chose number two. Number one was easy though...

Nintendo World Report Overall Game of 2007

The Grand Prize Award

Super Mario Galaxy Wii

Mario 64 2 finally arrived. Super Mario Galaxy delivered on its re-imagining of age-old Mario 3D platforming, quickly accruing critical acclaim and jousting with The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the title of "Highest-Rated Game Ever".

Super Mario Galaxy is so wonderful because it's much more than just another sequel in the Mario franchise. It manages to reference older Mario games and themes while still soaring on its own ideas and gameplay. It uses gravity, spherical worlds, and clever level design to turn traditionally complex 3D gameplay into a fun, action-filled experience that's accessible to Nintendo's favorite audience: everyone. Super Mario Galaxy is, hands down, our 2007 Game of the Year.

Runner-up: Sin and Punishment

At nearly seven years old upon its release on Virtual Console, Sin and Punishment might seem like a curious choice as a contender for 2007's Game of the Year. Nevertheless, as a truly outstanding game becoming available outside of Japan for the first time, Treasure's action opus is more than worthy of that distinction. The perfect antidote for those weary of the glut of casual-oriented software on Wii, Sin and Punishment's uncompromising design stands the test of time, tantalizing us all with the prospect of what Treasure will do with the Wii Remote in the future.
