DS - Best Multiplayer

by James Jones - March 6, 2008, 5:51 pm EST

Nintendo World Report (finally) honors 2007's best games.

There are quite a few DS titles that are a blast to play with others. 2007 provided a deep pool of multiplayer titles to choose from, but there were a few that really stood out from the rest.

DS - Best Multiplayer

The NWR Award

Pokémon: Diamond & Pearl

Aside from Tetris and maybe Bubble Bobble, there is no better multiplayer video game than Pokémon. Human opponents are the real test of your Pokéfanaticism, because in all likelihood your friend has figured out stat training and knows what all the different items do. Like you, your friend has trained at Victory Road and has beaten the socks off of the Elite Four dozens of times. So can you beat him? Your mettle will be tested, Pokéfan! And if fighting isn’t your fancy, you can always trade Pokémon and items. And thanks to Diamond/Pearl’s Wi-Fi features, you can fight and trade with people all over the world! Today, Anchorage...tomorrow, THE WORLD!

Runner-up: Mario Party DS

You might be wondering why a Mario Party title could even be considered for Best Multiplayer Game, when the series is still offline eight years after its introduction. Well, it's simple: whether some gamers like it or not, Mario Party is incredibly popular for social occasions, and Mario Party DS is the first respectable portable entry. Its single-card multiplayer and varied DS-specific control schemes do a surprisingly good job of breathing life into this aging series, making Mario Party DS a solid runner-up.
