In addition, Pikmin 3 will run at 60 frames per second.
The first party Wii U games shown thus far at E3 will run natively at 720p. It is unknown if the games will upscale to 1080p. Speaking to Wii U Daily, a Nintendo representative on the show floor confirmed the native resolution of all games shown so far. The system supports video output at 1080p, but none of the first batch of games coming at launch will be running natively at that resolution.

Unlike its granddaddy, the Wii U is meant to lay down on the job.
The Wii U is designed exclusively for horizontal placement. In an interview with Kotaku, Nintendo creative lead Shigeru Miyamoto noted that one of the reasons they have been showing the system horizontally was so people would be clear it wasn't a Wii, which was traditionally shown standing vertically. Miyamoto indicated they could create a stand, but gave no sign that such a thing was in the works.

Unlike the 3DS, we'll get access to the storefront on day one.
The Wii U eShop will be available at console launch, according to the Wii U features list provided by Nintendo's E3 Media site.
The sheet lists one of the features of the Wii U as being the eShop: "The digital storefront for Wii U will be available at launch and offer a variety of content for people to download and enjoy. Consumers will also be able to purchase and download select games that are also available at retail stores."

Could all those Miis from other people on the Wii U home screen have an ulterior motive?
Nintendo's Miiverse social functionality, recently announced for the Wii U, will be able to recommend games to players that they might be interested in buying. As a result, Nintendo is hoping that they will see an improved tie ratio for their Wii U video game console.

The Heroes of Ruin developer is making this year's Skylanders game for Nintendo's portable.
Activision confirmed to us today that n-Space is developing the 3DS version of Skylanders Giants.
This was a shock considering that a few months ago we were told that Vicarious Visions was working on the game. It appears Vicarious Visions is doing other things, though it's still involved in the Skylanders universe, having developed the iOS game Skylanders: Cloud Patrol.

However, Nintendo said it would be much easier to add friends. UPDATE: There are conflicting reports, another source claims there won't be Friend Codes at all for the Wii U.

Shortly after this story broke, another source was found with conflicting claims. GameTrailers.com Editor-In-Chief Shane Satterfield tweeted that he received confirmation that Friend Codes are gone from the Wii U.

Over 70% of Nintendo 3DS systems have been connected to the Internet. At the Nintendo analysts meeting at E3 2012, Nintendo gave a few interesting statistics about the 3DS. In addition, the 3DS has sold more software units since launch than the Nintendo DS did during the same amount of time.

Nothing says "Welcome to Nintendo Land" like free admission.
Nintendo will be considering pre-installed software on Wii U in some markets. This came up as part of the Nintendo analysts meeting at E3 2012. Although they didn't reveal any specifics, they have mentioned multiple times during the event, most recently during the Developers Roundtable, that they consider Nintendo Land to be to Wii U what Wii Sports was to Wii, making it the obvious candidate.

Wii U will be a Bring Your Own Storage party.
Wii U will support external hard disk storage via USB connection. At the Nintendo Analysts meeting at E3, Nintendo confirmed that the Wii U will not contain an internal hard disk, instead letting users provide their own storage using cheaper external USB drives.

It's obviously no North American release date reveal, but at least there's still room for new stuff.
A new trailer for Pokémon Black and White 2 has been released on the Japanese Nintendo channel.
Although most of the information presented is known, it shows off gameplay of all five of the new Pokémon forms, as well as footage of the recently revealed Fes Mission and Join Avenue. It also features Pokémon Dream Radar, and shows off a capture taking place.

Activision's toy-based NFC game is coming to Nintendo's next system.
Skylanders Giants is coming to Wii U, according to Activision's Eric Hirshberg during an interview with GameTrailers.
"That franchise is just such a great fit for the Nintendo brand. I'm really excited for where they are taking the Wii U and the hardware," Hirshberg said.
The idea of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 coming to Wii U also came up, to which Hirshberg said that they had nothing to announce at the time.
