The updated version of GameCube's online flamebearer will soon see new features.

Following a tip from reader "anubis" which pointed us to interesting but conflicting game profiles at the official websites of Sega and Nintendo, PGC has now confirmed with Sega of America that Phantasy Star Online Episodes I&II Plus will be released in America very soon.

The game is an update of the original PSO Ep. I&II, which was the first (and for a long time, only) online title on GameCube. Plus was released in Japan some time ago, but with no announcements from Sega of America, it was assumed that the game would not be released stateside. We now know that the new version will be available here "very soon", but there is no exact official date yet. Nintendo's website's page for the game lists a Q3 2004 release window.

PSO Ep. I&II Plus enhances the original version with new offline quests and items, as well as many of the downloadable quests and GBA mini-games (including Nights) that have been offered to online players since the game's original release. There is also a new challenge mode.

So, this in any way related to the PSO "Blue something Edition" released for the PC recently?

No, that PC edition is an exclusive to the platform.

I hope, like how they made VF4 Evolution a Greatest Hit, they make this a Player's Choice title from the get-go so that people who already have the original can upgrade for cheaper. Either that or give current subscribers a rebate or a coupon or something.

Gamestop has the game listed as $29.99, while thats not the $19.99 price point you may have been hoping Ian, it is within Nintendo's own Players Choice price range.

I wonder if with this release they will finally bring some sort of official keyboard out as well (I know it will probably not be the case though).

Who knows maybe the reason they waited so long to bring this over here is so they can add some of the Blue Burst extras (again, I know it will probably not be the case though)

I had all but given up on seeing this title released in North America. Can't wait to get it in my greedy little hands.
