Couple the maintenance in with the rumor mill, and your Wii U might be quicker by the end of the day.
With extended maintenance being done on the Wii U and its eShop between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. PT (8 p.m. and 10 p.m. ET), it is very likely that the Wii U's inaugural system update will debut sometime after that, which falls in line with the Thursday launch for the eShop we reported earlier in the week.
On Monday, maintenance was done to the Wii U, 3DS, and their respective eShops. Coupled with Nintendo of America's Facebook tease saying that the Virtual Console was coming on Tuesday, that seemed to insinuate that the system update was coming Monday with the Virtual Console debuting on Tuesday. However, the Facebook tease was just for the Virtual Console launch line-up.
As Nintendo President Satoru Iwata said during last week's Nintendo Direct, the Virtual Console will officially launch the day after the system update. So, if the system update launches today, Virtual Console will likely launch tomorrow. The service will launch with eight games, including Super Mario World, F-Zero, Balloon Fight, Ice Climber, Excitebike, Donkey Kong Jr., Kirby's Adventure, and Punch-Out!!.
