The final of the three anticipated titles will be released in Europe next year.

Pandora's Tower is confirmed for a European release in 2012. This was confirmed today at Japan Expo by French gaming site Livegen.

The three games, Xenoblade Chronicles, The Last Story, and Pandora's Tower were among the playable titles at Nintendo's booth at the Japan Expo, taking place in Paris, France this weekend. A release for Pandora's Tower was hinted by the marketing director of Nintendo France in an interview last month.

The game is developed by Ganbarion, who have also worked on the Jump Stars series released in Japan, and some One Piece games that have been released internationally.

Nintendo of America currently has no plans to release Pandora's Tower. To find out more about the game, please take a look at our impressions of the Japanese release.

Well, you can Troll Hard Europe.  Showing your chops.

Grats, Europe.  I want to play this game.

broodwarsJuly 02, 2011

*insert rant HERE about how useless Nintendo of America is.*

At this point, I can only sigh and shake my head at NoE being 3/3 and NoA being 0/3 on these games and practically begging us to pirate them.  I suggest people remember this the next time someone starts doing one of those stupid "Reggie is so AWESOME!" posts, as well as when NoA starts ramping up the hype for the Wii U.  The only way we'll have a competent NoA again is if Iwata replaces the entire leadership.  Until then, I suggest you folks vote with your wallet.

MiyamotoJuly 02, 2011

How can NOA come out at E3 and say they want the core gamer when they're neglecting them right now? Hey Nintendo fans, NOA doesn't give a f*** about you, only their bottom line.

IGN Nintendo actually has a rather excellent editorial on this: "Nintendo's Fans: Alone in the Dark"

Killer_Man_JaroTom Malina, Associate Editor (Europe)July 02, 2011

All three are coming now?! Nintendo of Europe, I am impressed. Whether or not this makes financial sense (smart money's on not), it's great that they're at least trying. Pandora's Tower doesn't sound like my thing, based on the limited information we've gotten, but fans of God of War and the like will probably get on with it better.

EnnerJuly 02, 2011

Great news for Europe! Curious to read more about this game since I have read (from a forum post) that this is the weakest of the three games.

Sadly none of this would be a problem if Nintendo would have just went the route of Sony with the PS3. Meaning that the system be region free.

CericJuly 02, 2011

European Correspondents will be busyish.

WrathOfSamus777July 02, 2011

Good, now I can import all three and give my money to NOE since NOA doesn't want it.

Chocobo_RiderJuly 03, 2011

Now, just to be clear, folks...

All our disappointment and rage should be aimed squarely at NoA.  Not Nintendo in general.

People who are like "Why would anyone even bother with the Wii U!? Nintendo doesn't care anymore! They're gonna act like this forever!" are being a bit silly.

These games are being developed for NINTENDO platforms.  These games are going to be published, in English, for NINTENDO platforms.

As much as NoA is dropping the ball here, Nintendo of Japan is killin' it for allowing these games to get made and Nintendo of Europe is killin' it for getting them localized.

In the past few years, I've played some of the most interesting and niche titles of my life on the Wii - in English, in America.  2010 was amazing for both 1st and 3rd party games.  These are things that happened.

The idea that NoA is going to be this stupid for the entirety of the Wii U life span? That has not happened, and I don't think 7 months of inactivity logically leads to that conclusion.

To sum,
NoA? Currently really, really, really stupid.
Nintendo as a whole? Still the best in the biz.
Xeno/TLS/Pandora? Look great. I want 'em.  And I for one will be happy, but not surprised, if some or all of them get  eventually NA releases.
Operation Rainfall itself? Never give up!!!

Alright, that's all, just wanted to clarify.

You have an interesting way of interpreting statements.  I don't think Nintendo is "doomed" by these idiotic localization choices of their North American branch, though I do think that infuriating the very demographic they will depend upon with the Wii U is a very STUPID business decision, because make no mistake: the casuals will not be there to save them next time.  They didn't buy more than a handful of games on the Wii, and they won't do any better on the Wii U.  And that's assuming, of course, that Nintendo can even convince the casuals to spend hundreds of dollars on another piece of hardware they'll never use.  In my opinion, if you're trying to convince the core audience that you aren't a fantastic waste of time, now would be a good time to start building that relationship.  But whatever they do, I'm sure Nintendo will make a steady amount of profit as always releasing new rehashes of the same franchises they've always relied upon, which people will give a huge pass to despite always complaining about the industry being full of sequels.  So no, they're certainly not "doomed".

But as I alluded to with my "insert rant HERE" crack, I'm beyond the point of being angry at NoA.  What's the point?  I get all hot and bothered over something I can't control, and Reggie sits in his office cackling and throwing Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii money in the air.  This isn't worth the effort and mental stress of my anger anymore, not when I have so many better and more entertaining things to channel my energy into.  They warrant merely my disgust and disinterest, both of which they have more than earned this generation, Nintendo of America most egregiously.

Yeah..IGN "Nintendo."  That's a whole other can o'worms right there.

I read it too, don't know if I'd call it excellent.  For some reason, Richard George doesn't distinguish between NCL and NOA in the editorial, either he can't tell the difference or he thinks IGN readers can't tell the difference.  If it's the latter, well, I don't blame him.

Luigi DudeJuly 03, 2011

What we need to do is find a guy who looks like Reggie, and then record him saying a bunch of racist things about Japanese people.  Then we post it on Youtube under the title, "Nintendo of America president hates Japanese people".  The video gets the attention of the Japanese Nintendo fanbase who gets angry and demand Iwata fire him.  Since NCL really cares about it's fanbase and goes to great lengths to always keep them happy (complete opposite of NOA), Reggie is fired immediately before he even has a chance to defend himself.

So yeah, anybody know a good Reggie impersonator.  Trust me people, this will work.

Reggie could say something like "And why does Miyamoto's family always come and do his laundry?  And I know that Nintendo's stock dropped, but Iwata could at least go outside and talk his "ching chong ching ching.""

To be fair, they are good games even if they are the same games. Also, I would hope that the people giving a pass to the rehashes aren't the ones complaining of too many sequels. I quite like learning about the little and big changes of a series next installment.

I am tired of seeing statements like that because they are not true, at least when it comes to Nintendo's own published games. Wii had a ton of million sellers and you cannot tell me the core were the only ones that bought them, even Wii Music which didn't impress Nintendo sales wise sold something like 2 million. The casual gamers ate up Nintendo's own casual games, it was the more core games that were hit a miss. So let's be honest here, the casual owners of Wii DID buy games, everything form Animal Crossing to Wii Music, to Mario Kart Wii to NSMB to Wii Sports Resort. It was not the core gamers that made the majority of Nintendo published games a success it was these casual gamers people like looking down on. It was the core gamers who dropped the ball with Wii by not picking up the quality 3rd and 1st party games made with the "core" gamer in mind.

Nintendo's decision to not bring out these games sucks, but let's not pretend that Nintendo is now doomed. The fact is that we don't know how the Wii U will do, we are at a turning point in the industry there hasn't quite been a generation like this where so many casual gamers have jumped on the band wagon, whether it was with Wii with many of Nintendo's games or the Kinect.

KDR_11kJuly 03, 2011

Yay!

ymeegodJuly 03, 2011

"Wii by not picking up the quality 3rd"  That's the thing, nintendo has gaps in developement cycles so the WII actually started off strong with Zelda, Smash Brothers, Metroid Prime 3 ect all hitting within the first year than it went into sleep so by the time any of these third-generation of games came out like Metroid Another M the hardcore gamers already moved on.

Hell the only reason why I kept my WII for this long was in the hopes of getting some RPG loving but now there's only two titles left, one Zelda and one Kirby for the entire year?  Bleh.  I don't play sport titles, minigames, and comic-book followups unless they are good which isn't the case 90% of the time.

What's the point in buying new hardware when the damn thing is going be abandon 4 years later?

And WII Music made tons of money for nintendo--it sold like 5 million but nintendo expected it to outsell all those other music games.

axisofweevilsJuly 03, 2011

Some of the responses to that IGN post are hilarious - in a bad way.

"I had the Wii for 4 years, I only bought SSBB. Why are Nintendo not releasing these titles?"
Well, given that you didn't buy any of the other hardcore titles, why on earth would you buy these? You're part of the problem.

"That's it! I'm going to protest by not buying the next hardcore game for the Wii U!"
That would just show Nintendo that they were correct in thinking that these games won't sell, and they won't bother to localise the next Hardcore game.

Sigh.

Chocobo_RiderJuly 03, 2011

@ broodwars

So you're confident the "casual" gamer won't be playing.  And you're confident the "hardcore" gamer is now alienated.  But you're not, in any way, implying that Nintendo is doomed - instead, that they will continue "cackling and throwing Wii Fit and Mario Kart Wii money in the air."

This is why we didn't need to hear from you... Contradict yourself much?

Plus, are we really supposed to be upset Mario Kart is a successful franchise? Those games rule! Stop mistaking any first party title for being dismissible "casuals" just because the company also makes exercise, brain training and mini games.  Most Nintendo games are the very root of core gaming!  (Core =/= shooters alone.)

Plus, even Nintendo's "casual" games tend to be pretty darn well made! So again, I wouldn't fault them for the general laziness in the genre.

~~~
Ultimately, the biggest reason we didn't need to hear from you ...
You're making the very mistake my post described how to avoid.  You're letting NoA's current actions speak for Nintendo as a whole.  And that makes no sense.  Or did you miss where I said that NoA is clearly being stupid? I guess I did word it sort of confusingly....
No, not really.  For one thing, you're assuming that I'm saying that all core gamers will be alienated by Nintendo of America's incompetence.  Clearly, that hasn't been the case so far, or Nintendo would be treating this more seriously.  I've seen quite a few forum users on other forums who just don't care that their Wii gets used only twice a year, since that's all they bought it for.  But beyond the core and casual audiences, you also have the Nintendo loyalists, the people who buy every Nintendo product when it hits the market and have an endless supply of optimism.  On some level I can understand that, as I was probably in that camp up until the Wii launch.
Nintendo has repeatedly demonstrated over the years that no matter how badly they treat their audience, people will keep coming back for the same franchises time after time, year after year.  I just think that Nintendo's going to be looking at success on par with the GameCube years rather than something like the SNES or Wii eras.  Nintendo has so much money from this generation that they could completely and utterly bomb next generation, and they'd still be fine for another console.
And incidentally, I wasn't necessarily insulting the Mario Kart franchise when I mentioned it earlier.  It's just one of the games on the Wii that has sold an insane amount of copies despite not actually being that good IMO.  I do find the franchise incredibly stale, but it has its fans.
steveyJuly 03, 2011
Alright, I was worried that it wouldn't be translated and have to settle for Japanese import with a menu only translation patch. :)
Quote:
Because that is all that is required to play imported games. Why sell the game at $49.95 in America when you could sell them at $72.54 a pop in Europe....
After all, what kind of core gamer doesn't own a copy of SSBB
I definately won't argue this year doesn't suck for games and NOA should be ashamed, though I don't think it means anything to Wii U's success or failure. Like I said the dreaded casual gamers buy Nintendo games like crazy along with the loyal Nintendo fans that enjoy different types of experiences then just "gritty realism" found on other consoles, that is why many remain loyal to Nintendo, they have game experiences not found on other consoles, heck the platformer is virtually dead elsewhere. The Wii was never meant to be a long term console because of its power limitations, hopefully the Wii U rectifies this. We'll see how Nintendo markets it, they cannot alienate the casual gamers, they are the ones that provided Nintendo with the biggest money bags this last generation when it came to buying their games, so yes they are quite important, but on the flip side they need to be smart and expand their audience to the more traditional gamer as well. It will be an interesting generation.
Dude... we get it.
As I said from the start, there's not much point to your input.  Go back and read what you write.  Your thoughts are either conveniently general or outright contradictory.  The latest development is that apparently you think people who do enjoy Nintendo products are some kind of blind zombie/lemming hybrid that both thinks Nintendo can do no wrong, but have also not played their games in years.
...
Your only constant is that you're not a fan of Nintendo, and that concept is too mundane to need reminders every few minutes. ... we get it.
Dude, I know this is a very hard concept for you to understand so I'm going to spell it out to you in a format you have shown to comprehend:
If I weren't a Nintendo fan, not only would I not care about these games not coming over
but I would be gleefully taunting you about it, assuming I'd be on this site to begin with.
I wouldn't be writing paragraph after paragraph airing my grievances because I care, and in fact wouldn't still own my Wii.  I am a very passionate writer, something I don't feel the slightest bit of shame over.
I entered this generation as a loyal Nintendo lover who had only ever owned Nintendo consoles/handhelds, and I exit this generation having to own multiple alternative consoles because the Wii experience has been so lacking.
To some extent I'm still a fan of some of their properties, but the way the Wii years have played out have made me cynical.  That is all I have to say to you.
Chocobo_RiderJuly 03, 2011
You know what?  **** them.  I'm done with this B.S.  I don't have to put up with nonsense like this on my other consoles, and Wii owners shouldn't have to put up with it here.  They shouldn't have to hack their Wiis to play these games just because Nintendo of America's leadership is incompetent.  I like this site; the podcasts; and my fellow readers/listeners here, but I'm done with supporting Nintendo this generation and the next if they're going to treat their customers this way.
There's a very clear distinction between "supporting" and "being a fan of" Nintendo.  I'm a fan of Nintendo, and some part of me always will be no matter what they do because I grew up on their games and consoles.  My Wii is stocked with dozens of games from the Nintendo I grew up with via the Virtual Console, and it's pretty much what my Wii is used for right now.  But I can't support them right now with my cash (which is the only thing I have that Nintendo actually cares about) after the way they have and are treating gamers like me this generation.  I also find the way they stubbornly stick to franchise formulas to be extremely frustrating since they are capable of so much more.  Do you understand the distinction?
Chocobo_RiderJuly 03, 2011
Honestly? No. You make it pretty hard to comprehend that you are anything but, for lack of a better term, a big ol' sourpuss.  If these were all important concepts for folks (like myself) to know about you, you should try voicing them.
This is why I feel confident in my assessment that what you say is either conveniently general or outright contradictory.
Let's see what we have:
-You like old Nintendo stuff.
-This generation's Nintendo makes you swear a blue streak.
-Yet, you like the Wii's virtual console service.
-But, not really any of it's modern games.
-Yet, "part of you" will always like even current Nintendo offerings.
-Yet, you find those offerings to be formulaic and thus, extremely frustrating.
-Also, because of 3 JRPGs (probably) not coming to America, you are swearing off their products for the present and foreseeable future.
It is this lack of specificity and self-contradiction that necessitates several posts to communicate anything other than outright hatred.
This is why I was warned about no one else but you when I started actively posting here, this is why your karma rating might be the worst I've seen, and this is why I didn't need your 1 cent (2 might be generous) regarding my thoughts.
You haven't seen Morari's Karma, have you?  ;)  Hah, someone's actually taking the karma system seriously, something the moderators have sworn no one does.  :D
Incidentally, man, you are the one who decided to pick a fight with me with your very first post in this thread, so don't get all hot and bothered that I responded, and even then I've been a lot more courteous to you than you have deserved.  You only have yourself to blame.  I'm generally pretty content to let people enjoy the things they like to enjoy, even if I don't care for it.  We all have different tastes in our entertainment.  This stuff didn't start getting heated and personal until you decided to make it that way, and I'm more than happy to have it not be.
And I'll forgive your little "you don't like ANYTHING!" comment because you're new here.  I've praised quite a few games in my time here, something you'd know if you'd been here longer.  In the words of that weird historian from Final Fantasy X: "And that, as they say, is that!"
It's like how I love Ace Ventura and The Mask, but don't give a crap about anything Jim Carrey does now. It doesn't make me like those two movies any less, but it does make me sad that he doesn't make movies I like anymore.
Or a band that you really like their early stuff but then don't like their newest album. You don't hate everything the band does, but you're frustrated by their current output.
Chocobo_RiderJuly 04, 2011
@broodwars
1. The whole reason I didn't need your input is because you largely contribute general exaggerations coupled with negativity to conversations.  So that was an attempt to avoid unnecessary conflict.
2. You're not really fighting me when all I have to do is use your own words against you.
3. I'm hanging out on a forum dedicated to my current favorite gaming company.  You're hanging out on a forum dedicated to a company you are currently "done with."  Who's more likely to start conflicts?
4. Are the karma scores gospel truths? Nope.  But they sure ain't random.
@ NWR_Neal
That makes sense.  But there's two problems with using that logic in this case...
1. His comments are never tempered with these phantom acknowledgements of past quality.  It's only when pressed like this that he shows any affinity for these games.
2. If you only like a band's older material, why hang out on a forum that will largely be discussing stuff you "don't give a crap about"?
EDIT:
I do want to give both of us credit for having our discussions without resorting to name calling or cussing.  That shows a maturity from you that is very rare on the internet, especially among gaming communities.  I genuinely do appreciate that from you!
