A select group of Netflix users are slated to receive their Wii Netflix instant streaming discs very soon.

A lucky few Netflix users are slated to receive Wii Netflix instant streaming discs in the next few days. While not all users who requested the disc are receiving it, it appears that it will only be a matter of time until they do.

Netflix Instant on Wii was announced earlier this year, and was slated for a spring launch. With spring just beginning, it looks like Nintendo and Netflix will meet that window.

I wonder if hardcore Wii collectors will sign up for a trial to Netflix just to get the disc (the same sort of people who collect demo discs).

Mop it upMarch 25, 2010

If there are any Wii collectors, then yes, this type of thing would be something that they would want to have. They would probably prefer to get one straight from Netflix because then it would be in new condition with all original packaging.

ZoltanMarch 25, 2010

HOLY CRAP I DON'T HAVE A NETFLIX ACCOUNT BUT I STILL WANT ONE!!!!  It'll go great with my Monster Hunter Tri and GH: Van Halen disk sleeves!!!

BlackNMild2k1March 25, 2010

It's basically $10 for one month, you get to receive atleast 4 movies in the mail (assuming you watch and return 1 a week) and you can stream available content(entire season of Spartacus: Blood and Sand so far ;) ) till you've seen all that you care to watch.

If you really want the disc, it's worth the $10 1 month subscription. You'll probably end up keeping it for much longer than that though.

I generally manage two batches a week. If you mail them back out the same day you receive them, it's a helluva good value. I used to do three-at-a-time like that, but recently downgraded to the one-at-a-time plan.

TJ SpykeMarch 25, 2010

You get a 2 week free trial, so you can at least give it a try and see if you like it. When I had Netflix, I also had the 3 at a month plan. My account was shut down by Netlix (someone, I think the brother of my sister's boyfriend, kept stealing the discs), with him in jail now I might try and get a new subscription (especially since I can stream it on my PS3).

BlackNMild2k1March 25, 2010

I still have 3 at a time.

I send out all 3 on a Saturday to receive 3 new movies movies on Tuesday (New Release Day). Out of the 3 on I receive Tuesday, I watch one to return on Wednesday so that I get one more movie on Friday, and watch the 2nd and 3rd Tuesday movies on Wednesday and Thursday, then watch the just received Friday movie that night and then

That equals 4 movies a week on a 3 at a time plan plus all the instant watch movies I get in inbetween that. very well worth the $15-$18 a month (I don't even know how much I pay anymore) if you ask me.

NinGurl69 *hugglesMarch 25, 2010

Netflix makes copyright infringement to online video a piece of cake.

ANYBODY can join this "sharing" sensation now!

BranDonk KongMarch 25, 2010

How so?

NinGurl69 *hugglesMarch 25, 2010

It's the cheapest, fastest, most convenient way to make the source material (high-quality source to be compressed) come to you.

ShyGuyMarch 25, 2010

Avast me hearties! Netflix has the pirate booty!

StratosMarch 26, 2010

Finally I can watch Instant movies on my TV instead of my computer.

TheFleeceMarch 26, 2010

My disc came in today and it took a few seconds to get it all set up. The streaming is super smooth and the video quality is fair for what it is. I like that there are shortcuts via the remote.

That's well done, but that still sounds like a pain in the ass. I like to be spontaneous with my movie watching. I never know when or what I'm in the mood to watch.

BlackNMild2k1March 26, 2010

That's what Instant Watch is for. I have about 60 or so random movies on call if I feel the need to watch something, and if I'm not feeling that list, then I can always sift through the the massive list of titles they have including the new releases.

I just have a system in place to maximize the value I get out of the service.

When I first started Netflix, I had a 30 day free trial. I'm pretty sure I watched 30 different movies in those 30 days and have been hooked ever since.

TJ SpykeMarch 26, 2010

Netflix is great for watching DVDs that are no longer in print and hard to find (or expensive, I used Netflix to watch all the ThunderCats DVDs). The more you rate and the more you rent, the better their recommendations get too.

Hero_of_time113March 28, 2010

Wow! I didn't know it was so exclusive! I got mine yesterday but I haven't gotten a chance to use it yet. I feel I've wasted a beautiful gift... haha

Hero_of_time113March 28, 2010

Okay. I just put it in and activated it and I agree. It's streaming beautifully! I am christening it with the Animatrix.

What a disappointing christening title...I hated Animatrix. It only solidified my distaste for the main trilogy. And it seemed to start off decently enough too.

It's alright, not amazing. I wanted to find a better christening title but didn't have much time before i left. If only Captain N was still on NIW. :(

StratosMarch 28, 2010

It had some good stories. I think the one about the detective was my favorite. I really disliked the stories about the start of the war and the the whole 'robots rights' thing. It just made little sense to me and failed to suspend my disbelief.

You should redeem yourself by rechristening it with an episode of Spatacus.
Now you can have Mature content on your Wii.

MorariMarch 28, 2010

Nothing says mature like laughably poor CG blood effects!

BlackNMild2k1March 28, 2010

the special effects are pretty bad but it's a TV show with a budget, not a 100 million dollar movie with 1 year of post production.

NemoMarch 28, 2010

This makes me want to dump Blockbuster-by-Mail in favor of this.

BlackNMild2k1March 28, 2010

Netflix is leaps and bounds better than Blockbusters mail service (yes, I have both)

Why on earth do you have both????

BlackNMild2k1March 29, 2010

I have one and my girl has the other.

Netflix has much quicker turn around through the mail and Blockbuster had* the benefit of being able to return the mail movies to the store and then check out an in store rental for free.

*the closest Blockbuster have all shut down, now the closest one is atleast a 10-15min out of the way drive.

Hero_of_time113March 29, 2010

Oh okay. that makes sense. I hear that Blockbuster is going out of business, that might account for the closing stores.

Battlestar Galactica has significantly raised my expectations for TV special effects. If it could pull off what it did on the Sci Fi Channel, a so-called "Premium" channel should be able to do better than that.

ShyGuyMarch 29, 2010

Look at lost, they are one of the most expensive shows on TV but they have some baaaad CG sometimes.

I doubt there were graphic depictions of swords slicing through human flesh and at times actually decapitating people on BSG. Sometimes it looks pretty good, but other times it is laughably bad.

If BSG can make realistic-looking Cylon Centurions entirely out of CG then Spartacus should be able to do blood correctly.

BlackNMild2k1March 29, 2010

The blood isn't really the problem. The blood is done artistically, it's the stabbing and cutting that needs work, especially when they zoom in and put it in slow-mo.

Not going out of business, just considering filing for banruptcy (which doesn't mean much since companies often file for banruptcy and then recover, it's only serious if they file for chapter 7 bankrptcy because that is liquidation).

Yeah, Hollywood Video/Movie Gallery/Game Crazy has filed Chapter 11 like, twice in the past five years or something.

kraken613March 29, 2010

I got my disc, I am now able to stream Netflix on every TV in my house.

ShyGuyMarch 29, 2010

kraken, how is the performance and resolution on the Wii?

Where do you go to get the disc? I found the link to get the PS3 disc, but it doesn't seem to have one for the Wii. I do this on the 360, but figure it couldn't hurt to have the discs to be able to do it on the other two.

kraken613March 29, 2010

I was actually quite impressed with the quality, I didn't use it on an HD TV but on a standard def TV it looked just as sharp as a DVD would, didn't take too long to load either. I didn't watch a full movie yet but about 10 minutes of one.

You can get one at www.netflix.com/wii For those of you who want some adult content on your Wii I suggest watching Caligula. At first glance the selection of movies appears shallow. Unless you already have a Netflix account you wouldn't know just how much you could watch. There is no search option on the Wii interface and all que lists have to be managed via computer. Is it like this on the other systems?

Caligula!? and people call Spartacus "Spartacus: T&A".... Caligula was nothing but nudity for the first(and only) 15 minutes that I watched.

The 360 version originally required you to manage everything via the web site, but has since been updated to let you browse available movies right from the console. This being a disc and on the Wii, I don't think such a change is going to come for it.

Got this in the mail while at PAX. I'll hopefully play around with it tomorrow.
