Yeah I know EasyCure.
Ok can someone give me a brief synopsis of the series.
**** happens. That just about sums the series up.
Ok, ok...you want a real synopsis. Alright, here goes (I'm going to deliberately try not to spoil too much from SH1 in case this game is fairly faithful to the story of the original): many years in the past, an ancient evil cult (funded by drugs) worshipped a dark god(dess) thought to be buried under the resort town of Silent Hill. After failing to summon the god by human sacrifice (who survived, to their cost), the dark forces came to the person and offered to use their hatred of the cultists to exact revenge. Deal done, the town was split into 3 separate dimensions: the "normal" Silent Hill (which normal people see), the "foggy" Silent Hill (where the town is shrouded in fog and everything is in ruin), and "dark" Silent Hill (where in traditional SH games everything is made of metal, rust, blood, and various flesh).
Over time, the town began drawing people to it, often people who had committed some sort of sin in the past or were related to the town in some way. When the person enters Silent Hill, the become trapped in the Other Worlds and must face the town's manifestations of their own fears or subconcious desires before the town will let them go. Generally, the town releases them once the person has acknowledged their sin(s) and repented, though usually after serving the town's dark desires by dispensing with other wanderers sucked into the town. As they travel through the town and undergo the ordeals, they shift between the "foggy" and "dark" sides of Silent Hill (usually "dark" transitions happen when the character comes close to a revelation related to the Truth).
That's the long and short of it. The various games have individual stories concerning various people who get trapped in Silent Hill. Every Silent Hill game is linked in one way or another to another game in the series, usually in small ways as only three games are directly related (SH1, SH3, and SH: Origins).
EDIT: It should be noted that there are exceptions to people getting trapped in Silent Hill. Generally, the town cannot capture the Innocent (like children). In fact, sometimes the Innocent can see people trapped in the Other Worlds but not their environment, as seen in Silent Hill 2 with the girl who can clearly see James but clearly has no regard for any of the creepy **** that should be surrounding her.
