Like I said, I haven't followed any Smash community so I don't know what they wanted. But I hardly think you can use any Internet Smash community as a basis for what every person who owns a Smash game wanted in a sequel, as they represent a very small percentage of people who own the game. Sales data doesn't mean much either, because the game probably would have sold just as well had it been more multiplayer-focused and with a better online mode, since it has such a wide appeal with including so many different franchises. The first game sold handsomely despite having a weak single-player mode.

Luigi_Dude is right. I do recall many fans wishing for a better adventure mode simply because the adventure mode in Melee was merely a taste of what could be done when it comes to a Nintendo crossover game.

In my honest opinion, Melee did a MUCH better job than Brawl in that aspect simply because it used the original Nintendo worlds.

Melee had us running away from F-Zero cars, traveling through the Mushroom Kingdom, escaping from the exploding planet like in Metroid and many other things that made us feel like we were living a Nintendo world. Brawl's worlds were just generic. There was no real presentation of the Nintendo universe outside of the characters.

If fans are saying that the SSE was good I am 100% they are being forgiving since Brawl=the best game ever made regardless of any actual flaws.

The truth is that the SSE wasn't all that well received by fans and the media. Sure there are the fans that liked it but considering the hype there was for it many were disappointed.

Ha.

I will say I spent most of my time playing Melee's Adventure mode and Classic mode.  A good 75% of my time with Melee.

I spent almost 35% of my time with Brawl's Single player experience...it was horrible.  I didn't mind the levels, I minded this piss poor character design...but it would have been nice to simply play extended levels in the classic character's world.

Well of course, all games that have huge amount of hype for long periods of time like Brawl are bound to leave many disappointed.  A lot of people were disappointed in Twilight Princess, a lot of people were disappointed in Halo 3, a lot of people were disappointed in GTA4, not to mention I remember a lot of people disappointment in Metal Gear Solid 4 last summer as well.

The problem with these huge games is that when they're hyped up for so long like all the games I listed above were, people start to expect unrealistic expectations for them, so when the final game comes out it's impossible for the game to deliver.

Had Nintendo never revealed Brawl at E3 2006 and instead waited until E3 2007 as well as never had the Dojo which just added fuel to delusional fanboys fire, the overall reaction to Brawl would have been way more positive.  The same thing can also be said about Twilight Princess if it would have never been shown at E3 2004 and instead waited until 2005 or better yet, 2006.  Because during the first year of waiting, fans are still being realistic, but after the first year goes by, they start expecting more and more until it reaches a point where the game will need to have 100 characters or 30 different dungeons, just to please everyone.

Which actually brings this topic about E3 again.  I've seen a lot of people on the internet hyping up E3 this year because they think Zelda Wii will be revealed, which I think is rather foolish since it'll more then likely leave these people very disappointed.  If Zelda Wii isn't going to be coming out within the next year, don't expect it too be shown at this years E3.  After the sh!tstorm that Twilight Princess and Brawl caused, they're one of the main reasons Nintendo started their don't reveal games until they're almost done policy.  Unless Nintendo plans on having Zelda Wii ready for fall 2009 or spring 2010, it's not going to be shown.

So if Zelda Wii isn't at E3, the earliest we can expect it is a fall 2010 release which means it might be revealed at Nintendo October conference this fall since that will be within a year though.  Of course even then, it'd imagine GDC or E3 2010 would probably be most likely for it's earliest reveal.

I think people are hyped about this E3 because of M+; specifically its potential. Logic says that a core IP or new IP aimed at the core will be revealed along side WiiSports Resort, an admittedly blue ocean game. If not, it will be last year all over again...a mistake Nintendo themselves have admitted. If Nintendo wants to be taken seriously by the gaming media (they don't want to burn bridges after all), this new game must prove the advantages of M+ to the masses immediately. I can't stress that enough; immediacy is key. They'd have a better chance of being adored by fans and media alike if the game were an existing IP, simply because imagination can go a long way.

That is why the fans are hopeful. Showing Link do a few things that can't be replicated on other systems is all it would take to bring love an admiration from the masses. But I agree with you. I don't think we'll see Link for at most a year.

Instead, I think it will be a grand unveiling of something new. Think about it; it's yet another new attachment. They would be foolish to unveil this product without proving it's potential. So they start out by featuring WiiSports Resort; a game that has major appeal. Next they feature games by other companies to show their influence and more importantly, their optimism. Then, to finally hammer it home, they show their latest game. It could be Link and it could be Mario or it could be something entirely different. The point is, it's coming and it's demonstrative of everything Nintendo stands for.

To be honest, while I am hopeful I am also doubtful of E3 overall. The organizers seem to be confused as to what kind of show they want to put on. They thought they were wasting too much money on shows for the press, they scaled down. The scaled down show made a lot of people whine and cry and created lackluster press conferences from everyone. So now they went back to the old E3 formula and people seem to be happy.

If this show doesn't deliver on all aspects them I WILL declare the show dead.

Hmm when you think about it, we're bound to get something from Intelligent Systems shown at this E3.  Back in 2007 they released Super Paper Mario and Fire Emblem on the Wii both at the very beginning of the year in Japan.  Now the Fire Emblem part of them did the DS game last year so maybe we wont see anything from them, but the Paper Mario team hasn't released anything since Super Paper Mario which is over 2 years ago now.

I think it's safe to say there's a good chance another Paper Mario game of some kind might be showing up.  Whether it'll be Super Paper Mario 2, or regular Paper Mario 3 is anyone's guess right now.

It's most likely WarioWare.

That is true since IS did most of the work for Smooth Moves because SPD1 was busy working on the first Rhythm Tengoku at the time.  So I could easily imagine IS making another Wii WarioWare since SPD has recently completed the new one for the DS.

The WarioWare games have become a way for Nintendo to show off their new technology and since we now have motion plus coming out, it seems like a good fit.  Of course I can easily see a balance board WarioWare game being announced since there's also a huge amount of potential in that as well.

There were rumors a while back about a new FE game for the Wii, right after the release of FE DS. So it could happen.

As for Wario Ware Motion Plus I would SO pick that over the new Wario Ware game on DS. I mean it looks cute and fun but it lacks the creativity of Touched and Smooth Moves. The Wii game, in particular, is the best in the series, in my honest opinion.

I think fans won't whine as long as it isn't the lone announcements of the conference. If they announce it alongside other games of interest then it should be fine.

Nope, there will be no Wario Ware or any game annoucement for that matter. Nintendo will instead announce a hardcore/for the whiners Wii which will include a "**** you" button. Press the button, and the Wii will horribly attack you with the disk being shot out.

Mario Galaxy will be shot out like a comet.

Post E3 Nintendo Press Conference in Japan

Rumor has it that Nintendo will be holding a big press conference here in Japan immediately following E3.

Actually, this isn't really a rumor. The source is the Sinobi blog -- you know, the blog that always gives out the super early sales information on Fridays. It seems to be a pretty reliable source.

The press conference is mentioned as an aside as the writer discusses how absolutely atrocious the Japanese game market was in May. The writer suggests that Nintendo could end up showing its summer lineup.

That summer lineup will presumably be lead by Wii Sports Resort.

The blog post was made on the 27th, by the way. I really need a new "Two Days Late" tag for all the stories I write two days late.

This is either for all the Japanese press that can't go to E3 due to travel restrictions (swine flu)
or
Nintendo has some BIG things to announce at E3 that could generate some major EXCITE in Japan and hopefully boost sluggish sales.

I'm hoping its a combination of both

Miyamoto is supposed to be having another roundtable discussion this year. Nothing much came out of the one from last year other than a "confirmation" that Pikmin 3 was being worked on.

From what I'm hearing Nintendo has no travel restrictions placed on any of their employees, but they are urged to take the utmost precautions when and if traveling anywhere.

SquareEnix & Capcom have supposedly barred all travel to E3 by any of its Japanese Employees, which is also part of the speculation as to why Nintendo is having a JPN Press Conference immediately following E3. We do have FFCC & MH3 coming soon and I'm sure they would want to give the SE & Capcom Execs a chance to present their own work.
