Will this be Konami's Billy Hatcher?

It better NOT be!

I think the game looks good.  Has a definitive style that goes with the character.  What do you want?  Bomberman XBox style water droplet?

I think it will be a fun game but as I mentioned in the other thread I don't htink it would make a good series.  Just a good game.

Hopefully it will have some adult humor that would go over the heads of kids, like Bugs Bunny.

What I REALLY want from Konami is a broader range of games, from Soccer titlesfor le monde, to generic action titles that the casuals will be sure to eat up, to support from their bemani games.

Dewey is cool, but I want company-wide Konami support, not single token-team support.

Speaking as the guy who sold Elebits back to Gamestop as fast as humanly possible, I agree, thus far.

However, I think the team who made Elebits was a relatively new one so I'm not inclined to dismiss them without offering them a second chance (this time, in the way of a RENTAL...).

I also agree to a point about Sega, except about Sonic and SMBall which were two of the cube's strongest titles. Billy Hatcher was god-awful in terms of gameplay and its ridiculously over the top cuteness perpetuated the exact image the GC needed to shake.

For this reason, I'm insanely glad to see EA bringing titles like Godfather and Scarface to the Wii because they combat whatever might be left of the kiddie image.

Get over it everybody.  The Cube had Killer 7, Eternal Darkness, RE's, and Residental Evil 4(Seperated on purpose).  Not to mention Prime who is actually the light hitter of the group of not for kids games (I let a mature 10 year old play Prime but, not the others...).  If those games didn't shake the image then nothing would.  In fact thats what happened.

I was only grouping them together because they're all Sega games that are really cutesy that were released for the Cube because of the assumption that the Cube was for kids.  Super Monkey Ball is a great game.

The image can only be removed by Nintendo themselves and nothing is going to happen as long as cutesy games are Nintendo's focus.  They need to offer a more broad range of styles in their games.

Stop this, the 'kiddie' image isn't even a problem. It sold 150 million Gameboys. "Wii" is never going to pretend to be something it's not, and that's why it's going to continue being so successful.

I also think original games like this for Wii mean a LOT more than the 1038th DDR game.

Hence why I said...

I think the Wii has done an excellent job of not making it matter: the same girls who your average insecure teenage male gamer is afraid of alienating through non-Mature games more than likely LOVE the Wii.

If it's a huge hit, then maybe, but four player DDR with integrated Wiimote support, a NEW music library and new modes? DAMN...

The DDR game is a big deal for a few reasons:

1. Konami hasn't used an entire new song list since the very first DDR game and Mario DDR.

2. Mario isn't involved in this one. That alone speaks volumes about how much MORE faith Konami has in the Wii.

I'm not ragging on Dewey: new franchises are always welcome. It's just that the PS2 was previously Konami's console of choice for DDR games and now the Wii is getting one which isn't attached to Mario, offers 4 player and online support AND a whole new song list.

DDR's presence on the Wii indicates a shift in Nintendo's image, so much so that childish-looking franchises like Elebits and Dewey can't change the Wii's image because I suspect we'll see MORE support for Konami soon after this anyway.

Having DDR on the PS was technically a no brainer.  Sort of like the eventually expanding it to XBox.

Though I do think its ironic that the only 2 DDR's to have totally new song lists are the only ones Nintendo got.

For those who don't know of Stepmania, it's the biggest selling point for any DDR game.

If Nintendo kills the "kiddy" games, "kiddy" games will be dead forever, and that will piss me off so much. Just because a graphical style is not brown and bloomed doesn't mean it is f-ing kiddy. Nintendo makes games that are cartoony, light-hearted and FUN. I don't care if it is the kiddiest thing you have ever seen, if it is fun I want it. Let the PS3 and 360 concentrate on the realistic adult games, and let Nintendo make what they want. The only image Nintendo needs to project is that the mature games are ok for the system too, not that the kiddy stuff doesn't have a place there anymore. There is a crowd, including kids, who like the kiddy stuff and should be catered too just as much as everyone else.

I don't think we need to worry.

Does anyone consider Wii Sports kiddy? I think that's the direction they're going more than anything.

This was made by the guys working on Elebits huh? How's 6-9 months for a blistering fast development time? And especially for a new IP as solid looking as this, developed ground-up for the Wii.

Actually technically all the pictures produced on some TV screens are made using only Red, Green, and Blue.  Meaning this game could be great for selected audiences.

The fast development time could be because they are using the Elebits engine. They probably started working on it during the time Elebits was being development and got a huge amount of work done.

I hope the mean is at least clean and polished and wasn't rushed.
