Dewy's adventure announced!
« on: February 01, 2007, 12:50:26 PM »
This is supposedly the first of many Wii Konami announcements.

The good news? It's not Elebits 2, its a brand new IP.

The bad news? It's done by the same guy that did Elebits, plus looks a lot like Elebits.

The game is Dewy's adventure. According to the description at IGN, you play as a drop of water set out to clean up his world. According to the producer, the game will have better graphics than Elebits and it will control using just the Wiimote (you can cheer now, MaryJane!).

Here's the IGN interview, complete with screens and trailer:
Dewy's adventure

Time to bitch about how Konami isn't bringing any of its world renowned franchises to the Wii or celebrate because they are being creative instead of just re-using the same franchise over and over? I'll leave that up to you.

At least it's a new IP, and they won't have any time constraints.. They started developing this at the same time as Elebits.

If they actually put real effort into it then cheers. If they don't then they're just throwing more kiddy garbage at Nintendo and completely stiffing them on real support.

It's going to be a while before that can be called though.

And how is that bad news that it is made by the same guy? Elebits was great!

I mention it because not EVERYONE was pleased with Elebits (S_B being the biggest bitcher). NWR's review of Elebits pretty much hits the nail on the head. Its a neat concept game but still far from the amazing game people are making it out to be.

Its true that just because the same guy is producing the same game it doesn't mean that it will be EXACTLY like Elebits, but from the early info and screens it seems to borrow heavily from Elebits, right down to how the cutscenes are presented (they are using the same artist and everything).

I just hope that this is a full blown game rather than a concept game made on a whim.

Well the game has an average rating of 75% on gamerankings that is not bad at all. So once again I hope it is like Elebits .

This game is an action adventure in which you tilt the world... and change the temperature of your water droplet main character in order to imbue him with characteristics, like turning him into a steam cloud to shoot lightning bolts.

This game has a multiplayer mode, AND a level editor. And online ala Elebits style at least.

Also, this game is coming out in 2007 (in Japan?).

Pre-ordered.

And another item of interest that should put some arguments to bed, the game uses normal mapping. Its a side note, as the gameplay sounds interesting.

An interesting bit with the Konami and IGN interview is that the Wii is much more capable than it is shown with the games right now and Dewy's Adventure will use the normal mapping graphical technique, Konami's main focus in this game is streamlining the graphics engine and the controls to match gameplay. And a interesting bit they said is that if the 4 player mode doesn't work  they will stick to 2 players at least. Also the same art illustrator will be used in DA so don't be surprised if the art direction will be similar.

Read the interview, looked at the screens and watched the vid.

Looks very good from a visual standpoint! Better tech than Elebits, and also a better art style if you ask me. As far as the gameplay, I think it looks promising. Fingers crossed.

Tilt-controls make me a little bit nervous. I wouldn't mind an option for using the nunchuck's analog stick, but if their normal controls work all right then I guess that isn't necessary.

Bring on the new IPs!
Thanks for listening.

Yeah. This Dewy thread was actually later, but Pap paid off the officials.

I think it looks very good graphically, great textures, although nothing really looks normal mapped except the protagonist. I really like the art used for the cut scenes, I think we could be looking at the next big game art illustrator.

I just hope the gameplay is equally good.

Oh, and level editor FTW!

It looked pretty silly to me at first. Then I looked at some screens, and read up on it. Being a drop of water, transforming into like clouds and such really interests me.

I'll be keeping my eye on this one. Hopefully it keeps the fun going longer then Elebits, but the type of game that DA will be seems to lend itself to that being the case. Potential is certainly there.

Look like an interesting concept but I don't have a lot of faith in Konami's support.  So far only one of their teams is working on the Wii.  Plus I don't trust devs that only give Nintendo consoles cutesy games.  That pretty much always means they think the console is for kids and thus don't give it their full support.  It's like how Sega gave the Cube Sonic, Super Monkey Ball, Billy Hatcher and Virtua Quest but stuff like Virtua Fighter or Panzer Dragoon appeared on different consoles.
