E3 2005 Award (no border)

Nintendo Revolution

Not many people expected Nintendo’s new console to be playable at this year show, but that didn’t make the pain any less when we found out we wouldn’t be playing it. They wouldn’t even let us see the controller. We’ll just have to wait until next year to get our hands on Nintendo’s new console.

"The Xbox 360 was playable, revealing most of Microsoft's hand. Sony showed off some "flattering" PS3 demos. Nintendo? Well, they showed the prototype... without the controller. E3 would've been a good time to blow the lid off of the revolutionary aspect, but in true Nintendo fashion, they're holding it for a later time. It would have been great to get some hands-on time with the system, but I suppose it's just a little too early for such a thing. And there's always SpaceWorld (note: Who knows if there's actually going to be a SpaceWorld, but I really couldn't think of a better way to end it)." - Karl Castaneda

"Hopefully we'll hear more about this little powerhouse by the end of the year. If only it would have had playable games...but then again, I had my hands full with all of the DS games at the show, so things worked out for the best." - Jonathan Lindemann

"Actually, I touched it. Touching is good." - Jonathan Metts

"Well, actually some folks touched the system, but does that really count? I understand you don't feel like wasting time on misleading demos, Nintendo, but couldn't you comfort us on the system's horsepower at least?" - Michael "TYP" Cole

"It may look like the PlayStation 2.5, but I can't argue with the design. The small form, slot loading, clear coat and vertical standing suggest that Nintendo's finally stopped treating their console offering as a mere toy." - David Trammell
