We have a timeframe for the return of the Nintendo Direct.
In a note from Nintendo's recent financial results release, CEO Tatsumi Kimishima confirmed to the Wall Street Journal that in addition to an update on their mobile plans tomorrow, the Nintendo Direct will return in the next couple of months.

Two of the most demanded features are coming soon.
A software update to Super Mario Maker will launch on November 4 that adds two highly demanded features.
The update will add mid-level checkpoints to stages (shake the arrow) and the ability to have progressive powerups by attaching the Super Mushroom to the higher-leveled power.

Nintendo is throwing a spooky surprise in for those who visit Nintendo Zones this weekend.
Much like last year's Hallowe'en event, there will be a National StreetPass weekend this weekend in North America. As usual, Nintendo Zones across the continent will be configured to give visitors six StreetPass tags from across the continent in rapid succession.

After a long hiatus, the collectathon resumes.
Nintendo has launched a new StreetPass puzzle in North America, the first new one to launch since March.
A 40-piece Yo-Kai Watch puzzle has begun to filter out via SpotPass for those who have the function enabled. The puzzle launches just ahead of Yo-Kai Watch's North American launch on November 6.

The ride never ends!
Following last week's Nintendo Network maintenance, it appears there will be a second round tomorrow.
The Nintendo Network status page lists online play and leaderboards as down from 2 p.m. PT/5 p.m. ET tomorrow to 7p.m. PT/10 p.m. ET, and the eShops, Wii Shopping Channel and DSiWare Shop as all down from 1 p.m. PT/4 p.m. ET to the same end time.

A battle of real ultimate power will be coming soon.
Nintendo has announced the next Splatfest for North America, and the first post 2.2 competition will feature an important scoring change.
The competition will take place beginning at roughly 11:57 p.m. Eastern time on October 30 and cover all of Hallowe'en before ending at just after midnight Eastern on November 1. The teams will consist of pirates (Callie) against ninjas (Marie).

Resident Evil 4's Wii edition will come to Europe next week as a downloadable title.

In honor of Back to the Future Day, Nintendo has released Wild Gunman on the European Wii U Virtual Console. You might remember this as the game Marty McFly destroys when he travels to the distant and techno-heavy future of 2015 in Back to the Future Part II.

So the Nintendo Network logo was legit after all.
Nintendo has announced the upcoming Mario Tennis Ultra Smash will feature online play and Amiibo support.
A recent fact sheet from Nintendo confirmed that the November 20 release will have support for online in both Mega Matches and standard tennis. Doubles matches will be supported with two players on the same Wii U, or with an Amiibo partner.

At this point, they're giving it away.
Nintendo has announced a Yo-Kai Watch bundle just prior to the game's launch.
Starting on November 6, a bundle of a Nintendo 2DS and a preinstalled copy of the Level-5 developed RPG will launch for US$99.99, the current MSRP of the system.

Although Nintendo will not be talking about the NX platform until next year, sources indicate devkits are in the wild.
A report in the Wall Street Journal (subscription required; reproduction) has announced that the dev kits for the NX have been distributed to key partners. The article claims that the NX devices would use "industry-leading chips" for their processors, and that a mobile (handheld) and a TV console are both in development.

Nintendo has scheduled a full online maintenance for Monday North America time that will take all of the services offline for a few hours.

Spoilers: You won't be unleashing the Kraken as much.
A major update for Splatoon is coming early next week, and it's bringing a whole host of balance changes.
The listed changes (PDF link) cover multiple weapon buffs and debuffs such as rollers needing to hit dead center for a one-hit splat, walk speed increases for the N-Zap line and adding additional Rainmaker shield damage to the Slosher line. Sub and Special weapons have come in for a nerf, most notably the Kraken.

Japan had their shot last weekend, North America's up. (UPDATE: Europe too, with a discount!)
Nintendo has begun emailing their newsletter mailing list in North America to send out codes for a private Zelda: Tri Force Heroes beta.
The beta times are scheduled for particular times this weekend, and the email gives one code to the recepient and two to give to friends to test the three-player game.
