I have preordered with FYE Games last week for $50.00 here in Connecticut.  Someone else on the board called up their local FYE and they said they were not doing preorders yet.  So I guess you can try your local FYE and hope for the best.

Note:  I went to FYE Games not FYE.

What is FYE Games?  I'm here in the South and I haven't heard of them.  I found there site there seems to be one in some of the malls I called and they didn't now what a Wii was... Does FYE Games have a site?

FYE is part of the same corporation as Sam Goody and Suncoast. We have one here in Saginaw that used to be a Camelot Music.

I'm not really sure if they have their own website or it's just a part of FYE's.  It's a relatively new store in our area and they seem like the only store doing preorders right now.

I just preordered my Wii at FYE in Wilkes-Barre, PA, as well as Twilight Princess.  Grand total of $58 and some change for the two.  Just happened to stop in an ask, and they said they started taking them at that location on Friday.

Just called Sam Goodys here.  They said they are taking Pre-orders.  I'll probably stop by and put in a preorder there.  They've been good about it with my wives Harry Potter books and they open at midnight for those so, I figure they would for the Wii.
Update:  I got my Pre-order in at Sam Goody now.  They are a division of FEY like others have mentioned.  The lady originally tried to spell Wii Weii when I made sure to give her the spelling when I asked...  Then a manager type had to actually do it.

I don't know if my local FYE or Sam Goody are taking pre-orders, but do you guys think there is any advantage in waiting for GameStop/EB to start their pre-order deal? Does GameStop normally get more consoles or earlier shipments than places like FYE or Sam Goody?

Edit: None of my local FYE, Sam Goody, or Suncoast locations are accepting pre-orders, so I guess it doesn't matter. I sure hope that GameStop has a good pre-order deal.
Thanks for listening.

Seems strange that the same retail chains would have different preorder deals.

Some FYE don't sell video games, and some Sam Goody don't have very large sections.  It seems based on what competition there is in the area (does this mall have a GameStop) and how much space was available to them.
Around here the FYE doesn't sell games, but across town they do.  The primary difference is here there are 3 GameStops (1 in the mall, 2 within 5 miles), and there the closest one is 15 minutes away.

The stores that sell games (or sell them in larger quantity) probably got permission to do their pre-sales early so the company gets a good idea for demand.

I was at EBGames last night, and someone else asked about Wii preorders before I could.  What did the employee say?

"We don't know, they'll just phone us one morning, and then we'll start ringing each other up.  We'll get 5-10, 10 max."

In other words, only EBGames employees will be getting a launch Wii.  Edit: although if Oct. 9 is really the magic date, then maybe if I'm there at opening time I can get one too.  But seriously, I might as welll just lineup if it's that much work.

10 Wiis per each Gamestop and EB Games would be about right.  I see stores like Walmart and Best Buy and Toys R US, getting majority of the units.  Which is why I am not pre-ordering.  I will wait at Walmart, or another store that will reopen for launch.

If we're assuming 1,000,000 units at N.A. launch and Reggie's bit about 25,000 launch outlets... doesn't that come out to 40 each store?

By average, yes, but likely larger stores, or those with more sales, will get a larger amount, and the smaller stores or those with less sales will get a smaller amount.  Hopefully as proportional to their size as possible.

I'm going to South Park (yes, that's the name of an area here) where there's a Zellers, Toys R Us, and Future Shop all really close together.  Maybe I'll find a couple friends to line up at the other two stores and have the first person who makes it to the front of the line to buy three and call the other two of us via cell phone.  Of course then I need a cell phone...

So I had my father visit a FYE games down by his work (I am 15 and without a car) and they told him that they were accepting pre-orders for $50 down. He asked if they required that you buy a bundle, but the sales rep said they don't know yet. My dad forgot to ask how many had already pre-ordered.

What do you guys think? Should I go pre-order with them or go for midnight at Wal-Mart?
Thanks for listening.

I pre-ordered with Sam Goody (A branch of Suncoast who is also part of FYE)  They've always been good about book pre-orders with me.  I didn't see any reason not too.  I thought about the waiting in line at Walmart gig.  Even though I do enjoy the company of other gamers and like I really don't want to have to wait 6 hours to guarantee that I get a Wii.

I trust Zellers to not force bundles on me, but I don't trust them to have them ready at launch.  I'll have to ask around, first.

As I've often recounted, Zellers had several GameCubes available on launch day, which is where I got mine without a preorder.  There wasn't even a line.  It's like, people don't even consider Zellers as a place for video games, so I'd say that if they get Wiis on launch day (and I don't see why not), it would certainly be a place to consider.

There's a shopping area in Edmonton called South Park, and there's a Zellers, Future Shop, and Toys R Us all within close proximity of each other.  That's probably where I'm going to hit.

For whatever reason I've never had bundles forced upon me anywhere for any launch, so I'm not fearing that at all.  Should I?

I think it's mainly the game chains (and maybe some U.S. electronics chains) that do the bundle stuff, I've never heard of it here either.

Yeah bundles are one of the most annoying things ever. I hate having stuff I don't want pushed on me just so I can get the actual thing I do want. That's why I don't ever bother pre ordering anything. I go to walmart or some other store and get exactly what I want, which is also what I plan to do with the Wii.
