Just thought I had to share this, there's a store here in Australia that currently has 198 Wii pre-orders.

It's the only store in Australia that's going to sell the Wii.  198 preorders is for the entire country.
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Toys "R" Us will begin taking pre-orders for the Wii on Sunday morning (October 29, 2006) when they open at 10 AM. I called my local TRU a few minutes ago and confirmed this information myself.

Whoa, TRU said they STRICTLY don't preorder systems, only games...

Just called the store again, to confirm. The console will be available for pre-order on Sunday morning and they are only expecting a shipment of 20. Thanks for the heads-up though. It would have sucked to go there on Sunday morning to find-out the pre-order applied to Wii games only. Luckily, as it turns out, that is not the case.

No, I believed you, it's just that I was stunned that they would renege on their previous policy of only preordering games.

I never thought that you didn't believe me. What happened was - after reading your reply, I realized that when I had called and asked about the Wii pre-orders the girl said "Sunday", but never clarified whether it would be games-only or systems, too. I figured it would be best to double-check before I set myself, and a lot of others here, up for disappointment. It's better to be safe than sorry, so I'm glad that you posted about TRU's usual no pre-ordering of consoles policy.

The retailer has also added a new pack to its offerings: the Zelda Family Pack. This $729.99 deal includes the Wii Console, an extra Wii Remote, 5 games - The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess, Wii Sports, Rayman Raving Rabbids, Need For Speed Carbon and Open Season - plus a Wii Console bag and $400 worth of coupons. For those of you playing at home, that's about a $160 saving.

That's the worst bundle of all time. Hopefully the original "one free game" one still stands.

Make sure to ask your local TRU for confirmation on the free game first, some people have just rang them now and they've confirmed the free game is Zelda. There seems to be a bit of confusion about it at the moment. If it turns out to be Open Season i'll probably cancel it too.

Speaking of preorders and comical things, Toys R' Us Canada filled its preorders a long time ago.  It seems like every day I'm a little closer to standing in line at Wal-Mart overnight.

The lines at TRU yesterday were ridiculous. I got to my local store at 9:30 AM to find roughly 300 people waiting in line (Wii, PS3 and "Elmo"). Before even getting into the line, I was informed that the Wii was already gone.

Same story at a different location, though I didn't get there until 10:30 AM.

I pre-ordered mine here on Play September 24. I just noticed that Play.com has completely sold out of pre-orders.

Don't panic, it's us semi-forgotten folk in the UK.

For those who are in the same boat as me, here are the places that I believe AREN'T taking pre-orders so far:

Wal-Mart
Best Buy
Future Shop (Canadian)
Superstore (Canadian - I've heard a rumour that they will include a second game for $300 instead of $280, but that sounds too good to be true.)

Edit: Feel free to add more folks.  I have no idea about Target (not in Canada) or Sears (don't seem to sell video games at my Sears anymore).

Sears will have them in larger stores and as a policy doesn't do pre-orders.  Though they won't be put out promptly.  So if you can't find one try Sears.

Target = no pre-orders in the US, too.

At this point, I'm looking at a Superstore early morning pickup - I wanted to get it from there anyway, but they most probably won't do a midnight thing.

I'm thinking either Superstore or maybe Wal-Mart just because they open an hour earlier.  Actually, I plan to check places out after I play poker on Saturday, in case of lineups.  I asked at Superstore last night - he said they will get enough for people to just come in any time that day, but I'm scared that they're estimating that based on previous console launches.

PS3 is kind of a blessing and a curse here...I think lineups for combined Wii/PS3 preorders are making the systems look more popular than they really are.  On the other hand, I plan to try to nab a PS3 on the Friday so I'll get a chance to "test the waters" so to speak.

Apparently Walmart is allowing preorders for the controller and analogue attachment, but not the console..
