Nintendo Gaming / RE:Drought, drought...FLOOD!

Please then Pap... pick the site of your choice for review. Post a better rating. High standards? Yes, of course they are. That's because Nintendo, and third parties set that standard in the past and it's what I come to expect.  Your telling me that if you have an employee that exceeds your expectations in every aspect, then the following year his work quality drops 90% that your not going to expect and or question this decline...I bet you would.

Perhaps the title of this thread should be drought, drought, drizzle. What happened to Nintendo's saying "Quality not quantity"  So far I see the quantity, with less then average attempts at quality.

Reviews for most of these games are less then impressive: (Ratings from IGN)

TMNT = 5.5
Wing Island = 5.0
Blazing Angels = 5.7
Kororinpa = 6.2
Cooking Mama = 5.8

with the exception

Godfather 8.0
SSX Blur 8.4

What amazes me is how we are content with crappy ports, a "list" of games, and Nintendo's attempt to capture a demographic. Show me a Nintendo that is focused on capturing it's original market of the NES, SNES days and I will show you a fanboy that is happy once again.  -Crave   Vent complete.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Wii stronger then the first Xbox ?

IGN: Resident Evil 4 was a beautiful GCN title. Rogue Squadron was doing things at launch that developers still haven't done on Wii. Why do you think that is? Are studios getting sloppy on Wii?

Developer: Julian: Yes. I'm so disappointed knowing exactly what the Wii can do -- and I still think nobody knows it better than we (no pun intended) [laughs]. I really have to say, boy, am I disappointed! They all have finally figured out, five years into the hardware's life cycle, how to do at least basic shaders and a rim light, but that's what everybody does. But I still don't see enough bump and normal-mapping, if any. I still don't see enough post effects, although you would have insane fill-rates with Wii. I don't see any of that. I was digging out Rebel Strike the other day and was looking at it, and we had some people who were visiting ask, "Why isn't anybody else doing this on Wii?" And I am at a loss. I really am.

Just goes to show, we are not the only ones noticing. And they brought up some of our points from this thread..interesting my dear Watson.

To the ones who were kind enough to notice "then" was incorrectly used when in fact "than" should have been...here is your cookie (insert golf clap here).

Well, I see so far we have had quite the discussion.  I see that a picture of Super Mario Galaxy was posted pretty early on in the thread, goodie one great looking game, oh yeah and MP3, any others? Show me a great looking 3rd pty title that pushes last gen cube status.  At no time did I say the Wii was not as powerful as the Xbox 1, the topic title itself is in the form of a question.  Honestly,  nothing seems to do what I KNOW the Wii can do.  RE4 for example, amazing game right...developers pushed the Gamecube to this limit. So my question and frustration is, why is this NOT the starting point for first gen Wii games?  Oh they didn't have the dev kits in time...give me a break. Didn't developers just spend the last several years developing for the Gamecube? So we should see some great looking first gen Wii titles, and expect 1st gen Wii control at least.  The whole reason for this post was to point out that I see alot of LAZY work, wall filler I call it,  being released, and not kind of quality we all come to expect from Nintendo and it's developers. I know they can do better, which is why it upsets me.

Thanks to all who have added to this post.

I would say rent it first.  Always best to make a $5.00 mistake then a $50.00 mistake.

I have yet to see anything that is even of Xbox quality, and yet this was the early claim by developer's (obviously one's who have not yet created a Wii title)  What's your take? I enjoy the Wii, but I would like to see something beyond GCN quality at least.

All opinion's happily accepted.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Nintendo to announce mystery sequel?
« on: January 18, 2007, 09:15:22 AM »
Honestly I would love to be excited about the supposed rumor.  I don't plan on setting myself up for a big let down, bacause that's exactly what I am banking on.

Due to popular VC download demand we would like to announce "Urban Champion 2"  with 4 playable characters.

Let's see if this rumor amounts to anything...if it does, let's hope that it's for the best.

This is for anyone still interested in finding out what games may be on the Monday 1/8horizon for VC release.  Look through the list (link below). You will notice that you are in the Wii Section of the ESRB and see some new additions. As to when these VC titles will be released is anyone's guess, however, looks like sometime soon.  Remember the ESRB has to re-evaluate the titles to give them the rating, so these are ready to go ...that is of course when the big "N" decides to upload em. So have fun speculating

Nintendo Gaming / VC - Blaster Master Needed
« on: January 03, 2007, 08:45:43 AM »
This has to be on of my favorites of all time (Next to Kid Icarus).  This would be a definite plus to the VC and a worthwhile download for myself.  What do you think?

PS. Not to mention the other classics: Bionic Commando, Gumshoe, TMNT etc :p

General Chat / RE:The Nintendo Wii Cube

Actually Zelda looks great...especally since it's original creation was for the Cube and is releasing in Dec. Matter of fact, at times I find Zelda the most enjoyable, and visually satisfying title up to this point.  I think my definition of "polished" needs not to be defined.

Jack, you made my point. Red Steel looks great, but difficult controls.  GT Pro looks horrible but for the ratings, the control is said to be okay.  Soo...why should I blame Nintendo when...Ubi Soft made it quite apparent that they knew the Wii's architecture quite well for being first gen (Red Steel), and understood the control scheme to a point.  Why can't GT Pro look like Red Steel and play well to boot? It's not about graphical power now is it? It's about rush vs. take time and do it right. And Ubi Soft and Nintendo HAD time. That is my point, and subject of this thread.  Metroid Prime 3 looks great (Notice I am not trying to compare Xbox 360 or PS3 vs. Wii, that point it mute) My displeasure is with developers (including Nintendo) for rushing us product they could take time with, and in turn, present a more pleasurable experience. So it's not that they don't know the architecture (Nintendo/Ubi) ....Metroid Prime 3 was to be a launch title ...so there goes that theory about not being able to make a great looking game at launch (Delay you can bet was for perhaps 1 good reason. To release next year with online play, guaranteed) ..and Red Steel looks good, and "was" a launch title...so there goes "getting to know the basic power of the wii"  Anyway, now that you can understand that I am not comparing systems, you can see it's all about developers taking time and doing it right.  Hence, my point.

You should really re-read my post, for you obviously missed the entire subject topic.  Nintendo and Ubisoft could have produced MUCH better graphics (Look at Metroid Prime 3) My doubt is not wether the Wii can pull off both great controls, and graphics...it's that the titles I am refering too were rushed and in no way are they a polished product.  The quality is far from what I would expect from Nintendo. And if you want to reply I would suggest being "honest" about the topic rather than taking a one sided approach.  In no way am I attacking the Wii...but criticizing the developers for begin lazy.

So Excite Truck is the quality product you should come to expect from Nintendo?

"I would hold your horses till devs feel comfortable with the implementation of motion control before you expect them to start producing fantastic visuals".

Nintendo did publish, and work on Excite Truck....I don't see your point as mentioned above. Nintendo should have been able to provide both. In all honestly, I would have to say Nintendo "pegged" the controls quite well. So...the question is, why not have both control and visuals included with the launch title? I feel Nintendo rushed Excite Truck just so they could say "See, we have a launch title".  Give credit where credit is due, don't try to cover up the obvious.

The Wii's basic potential is not utilized at all. Gamecube's basic potential is Gamecube...period. Wii's "basic" potential can be seen in Metriod Prime 3 footage.

www.nintendoworldreport.com/gameArt.cfm?artid=11869  = garbage.

There is no excuse for this lazy creation. Guess what....Ubisoft had early dev kits, this is nothing more then an attempt  to cash in on what seems to be a cancelled PS2 title with Wii controls added.  What make's it all worth while is that the game is sooo bad it has a small chance to see profit, or regain development cost's (if there were any).  And what about Excite Truck...Nintendo of all people know the potential, and had the dev kit's from the get go. Here is a quote I happen to agree with "Ultimately, Excite Truck feels more like a tech demo than a full-fledged game"  While a few titles are good, Nintendo was content to launch with nothing more then a little glitter, and alot of wall filler.  I disagree with the late launch of Dev kit's in this matter due to the fact these two companies had them early enough to make a difference, but decided not too.

Yes, but even the Xbox used it's basic potential at the start...lighting..effects etc. Wii has yet to do that. I know over time they should get better, but for now I would be happy with using the systems "basic" potential, not the Gamecubes'.

Honestly, I would have to say after finishing Zelda that I am very happy with the title. Knowing that this was originally created for the Gamecube, the graphics are surpurb, and at times, aww inspiring.  The controller's are very innovative, and Wii Sports is alot of family fun.

With that said and with the exception of Splinter Cell... which I have yet to play,  nothing so far look's anything beyond perhaps a first gen Cube title ..or poorly ported PS2 title.  The Wii is 2x's more powerful then the Gamecube, yet we have yet to see proof of that. In my opinion it would have been a little comforting for some gamers (me being one of them)  to release Metriod Prime 3 to show off the Wii's graphical prowess..and Zelda to please the masses.  Point being, I HOPE that in time we see the Wii's "basic" graphical potential be used, and the end of the developers pressing the "Easy" button for profit.

Virtual Console...need some of the classic "arcade" titles as well..... If they "do" eventually work out the legal issues and get Goldeneye for the VC...here are to the hopes of "KILLER INSTINCT" arcade being brought forth and out of the ashes of the past.

Ok. I am not sure if anyone remember's this, however. I recall someone stating that confidential documents were intercepted in route to Nintendo of Japan.  These documents stated that Nintendo had found a way to reduce processing power down to and the like 1/4.  I don't recall the exact specifics, but, if Nintendo has honestly figured this out ... then we may be in for a treat..maybe more so then we expect.  Just putting 2 and 2 together here and so far when applying the response from ATI to this old news it = 4.

Heh, I have been thinking the same thing ever since the announcment of Merrick leaving Nintendo. I am willing to bet all my money (ok I have none, but if I did) I would have to agree with you 100%  This is an obvious removal of someone who let too much slip out..period.
