Nintendo Gaming / RE: So who actually liked Geist?
« on: June 01, 2006, 04:41:29 AM »
Fair enough Magik, I see your point. It definitely would have been nice if Nintendo stepped in and really helped bring Geist up to par. I guess the best we could hope for now is that a Geist 2 will actually exist and won't take 5 years to come out.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: DS Download Station: Update soon?
« on: June 01, 2006, 03:05:29 AM »
It would be cool if Nintendo offered a firmware upgrade at the download stations so you could control the brightness of the original DS. I know there are some hacks to do it, but I'm not going to bother messign around with my DS to do it.

Who else is pumped to give this bad boy a whirl today? I'll be grabbing after work today and rocking it out for the rest of the night.

I think that is a really cool idea. I've always wanted to play as Ganondorf in an actual Zelda game. I thought Four Swords was awesome(the gba original screen made it slightly annoying) and I would love to see another with a more advanced idea, like the one you described here nemo.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, I hate the name Chili (pronounced Chai-lai, not Chili, like the food). Bugged me for so long, but I have learned to accept it. I work out in Greece currently. Who wouldv'e thought Rochester would be rocking out the PGC Forums?

By putting it on the Wii, the controls would have been a lot better and fixed the problems.  The graphics would have definitely looked a lot better as well.

I'm glad they didn't push it to the Wii. This opens it up for a sequel on the Wii where they fix alot of the problems mentioned in this thread. A Geist 2 has a lot of potential. The idea for geist was solid, and for the most part original, but the execution was a little weak. Lets hope we see a Geist 2 that carries on the spirit(no pun intended) of Geist but with a new execution and more variety.

122 Golden Rod Lane Apt. 5. Used to be in a townhouse, 245 Golden Rod Lane. If you're ever in the mood to do some Nintendo Gaming I'm up for it.

I too am almost done at RIT but only undergrad I'll be getting my CS degree in February 07. Glad to be finishing up, at this point it's all liberal arts(smooth sailing) until graduation.

Wow, I didn't think anybody else actually appreciated that game as much as I did. I'm all about Mischief Makers Wii. I'm sure something clever could be thought up to make it unique. And if we can't get a new one I'll take a VC download anyday.

Yup, I'm always in that Walmart, I was there today but didn't think to go check the games section.

BTW, I was checking out your website and I see that we live on the same freaking street and both go to RIT, hows that for weird.

TalkBack / RE: RUMORS: Wii to be $149 on October 2nd?
« on: May 31, 2006, 06:05:08 AM »
I think you make a good point couchmonkey considering people are still focusing very heavily on Nintendo's every move. People want to know more about Wii and even though E3 happened a few weeks ago at this point, hype is still huge.

On another note, an early October launch would be awesome. One of the things I found curious when looking through alot of sites were the release dates of the games. Many listed Q3 as the release date, which almost made me believe that the games would come out end of September and the Wii would launch early October.

Let's see... Pre-order online, and get it shipped to me... Or camp out on a hard sidewalk in the cold fall weather of New England...

It's all about the Wal-Mart Supercenters, they are open all night. Start hanging out at aroun 8 or 9 and just play some DS with other campers, sure to be a good time.

Nintendo Gaming / Are you camping out?
« on: May 29, 2006, 03:25:57 AM »
I was just reading the mailbag and one of the questions was on preordering the Wii. Are you guys more likely to preorder or camp out? Personally, I think camping out is the only way to purchase a game console. I camped out at the local walmart for the Cube and at 1am in the morning I was enjoying the next generation.

Question 2: What games are a definite purchase at launch?

I am going with LoZ, MP:3, Excite Truck(if it's there), Wii Sports, Madden Wii(First Madden Purchase Since '94 on the SNES), and possibly Rayman.

That situation would greatly benifit Nintendo, it would be a war between Wii60 and PSWii. There really would be no room for the PS360 because both consoles are just too similar to warrant the extreme cost of buying both.

I think that this is going to be the real kicker for the Wii. In the past generation people could buy a PS2 and an XBOX and not buy a Gamecube. For the most part, if people are looking for another console this generation, the only logical choice is the Wii. For a long time I always trashed on Nintendo's marketing for being the worst in the world, it makes me wonder how they made a complete 180. Must be the Regginator...

Right now Nintendo has the cool factor going, thanks to the Wii-mote(with all it's nifty little tricks) and they have their own competition endorsing them. Nintendo is really sitting on top of the world; they would really have to do something stupid to screw up what they have going now.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: DK BONGO BLAST! WHoooooo!
« on: May 28, 2006, 06:10:00 AM »
I am very interested to see how this plays out. After playing so much Jungle Beat it felt natural to control a platformer with the bongos. I am hoping this is similar. There might be a slight learning curve but once you overcome it, awesomeness ensues.

I can live with the games running a smooth 20fps, but I'd much rather prefer games like Perfect Dark and Vigilante 8: Second Offense to run at 480p with 60FPS.  This would be a dream come true.

My god if Perfect Dark ran at 60 fps I am pretty sure I would crap myself.

TalkBack / RE:IMPRESSIONS: Excite Truck
« on: May 25, 2006, 07:19:31 PM »
I thought Excite Truck looked awesome as well. Over-the-top Arcade Racers have always been fun, especially when they are played in the arcade. I would imagine this controller will make it feel more arcade-ish than ever. I can't even begin to imagine how much money I am going to dump on the Wii on launch day. I think I am going to set aside like $600-$700 and blow every dollar.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Starfox Wii....confirmed?
« on: May 25, 2006, 07:12:46 PM »
Starfox Wii would be amazing assuming it was absolutely nothing like Assault or Adventures. Starfox 1 and 2 were great as was Starfox 64 and Starfox DS seems like it will be good.  I wish Nintendo didn't bastardize this series on the Cube. At least there is huge potential for it on the Wii with the new controller.

I really liked Dan's entry reminded me of something Film Noir, kind of like Max Payne or Sin City. I see him sitting there in black and white and the girl comes over and the DSLite is the only thing in color when he busts it open. The color from the DS goes black and white when he makes the comment about the girls eyes and then her eyes flash color.

Nice entry Dan enjoy your DSL!

I hear complaints about not flying, and I understand where those are coming from, but I disagree.  I believe this game makes up for the lost depth of flight with so many other things.  Tons of amazing platforms, good use of wall-jumping, great enemy layout and movement, and just lots of brilliantly-designed action.

I'm really hoping Nintendo keeps this engine and starts making sequels to this game with more throwbacks such as flight. I would greatly enjoy a new series of classic SMB action. The general response to the game seems to be extremely positive. Hopefully Nintendo gets the fact that people love their old school SMB and want to see more of it. I guess either way we have Super Paper Mario to look forward to for some more sidescrolling action.

I second that motion.

I would also like to add that the New SMB is NOWHERE near the difficulty of SMB3. I would say it is on par with SMW which IMO was not a very challenging game(1 of my favorite games but a much different type of challenge compared to the NES ones). SMB3 without skipping levels is brutal and with the New SMB I never got that feeling of pure hatred for the game for its ridiculous difficulty(probably a good thing). Oh yeah and SMB2(Japan) also beats the New SMB for difficulty easily.

The only reason I can come up with for it being easier is the simple fact that it relies alot less on pure skill and timing. Most levels play out like puzzles(to get the coins) where as old SMB games were focused on making jumps perfect, memorizing levels to avoid hitting stray goombas and general skill based stunts (with no wall jump to save your ass). Not that I am saying the New SMB was a bad game(as a matter of fact I freaking love this game), it just wasn't a very hard one IMHO.

WOOHOO! I love the Wizard! Time to toss the DIVX copy and pick up the DVD. It will go right next to my Mario Bros. DVD. Man I'm getting old, I remember when this movie was in the theatres and my mom took me to see it because I was so obsessed with the NES at freaking 4. Nintendo fanboy 4 life.

BTW Pale, I was just checking out your website and it turns out I actually go to the same school as you(RIT) and live like 2 doors down on the Golden Rod. Man its a small world.
