Nintendo Gaming / RE: Framerate vs Detail
« on: July 28, 2006, 05:31:38 AM »
Smoothness plays a huge role in interactivity. It is my understanding that Nintendo wants the Wii-mote to be an extension of yourself, allowing interaction on a whole new level. Smoothness in frame rate complements this very well. As long as the environments still look good, smoothness is key. It's all about using the right tools in the right spots and you can make things look great. Photorealism isn't what its all about. Style is what its about and developers need to start learning this. Style and clean graphics have always been a huge reason for me being a Nintendo fan(not to mention the awesome gameplay).

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Retro Movie for a Modern Game
« on: July 28, 2006, 05:25:55 AM »
Ghostbusters would make for an awesome Wii game. The controls would be great I'm sure, and if they could get Dan Akroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson to do the voice acting (also Rick Moranis, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts) this could be a real hit. The subtle humor, awesome NYC environment, not doubt this game would rule.

Both Gears of War and Nintety-Nine Nights look spectacular, I am also looking forward to Too Human shaping up. Right now it doesn't appear to be too impressive, but I'm hoping by the time it releases it is as solid of a game as Eternal Darkness.

Anybody else picking this up in 2 weeks when it comes out? Looks like a ton of mindless fun. Glad I have a 360 to enjoy some of these games that are coming out that I won't be able to play on the Wii (mainly Perfect Dark 0 and Kameo).

General Chat / RE: OMG my EYES are Great!
« on: July 20, 2006, 07:33:24 PM »
So here's my question, when they do this operation, it's 100% laser now? Last time I looked into getting the surgery they went in with a knife to create the flap then went to town with the laser. If the knife is old news it might be time for the surgery. I'm only -3 in each eye but the glasses are just annoying and I'd love to have them gone forever.

General Gaming / RE: Video games help treat cancer
« on: July 19, 2006, 01:50:20 PM »
Wow thats pretty awesome. Looks like a fun play, and the message is great. Hopefully this will be picked up by somebody big like Nintendo. I'd imagine with a game like this, some of the profits could go to the kids out there with cancer and help them with all the chemo and the surgery.

« on: July 19, 2006, 01:46:01 PM »
Well, its nice to be back from a long trip in Italy, and I also just saw the Team Fortress 2 stuff and Portal and my god does Portal look hot. I am really looking forward to this game. The possibilities are endless. Talk about the ultimate puzzle game, this will definitely fit the bill. Not to mention the FPS elements look lik ethey could be pretty cool. Chasing enemies through portals across levels, its gonna be some good stuff.

General Gaming / RE: My Mac is a better PC than my PC...
« on: July 01, 2006, 05:22:36 AM »
Everyone hop on! THe mac badnwagon is great. I got my first mac about 2 years ago and I love the thing to death. It has outshined my PC in so many ways its unbelievable. When I heard about BootCamp I was so excited because that officially means I can switch all the way to mac and still have a fully functional form of Windows to play games.

General Gaming / RE: Now Microsoft plan "New controller"
« on: June 29, 2006, 03:51:34 PM »
I think this whole situation is more flattering than anything else. Nintendo has shown the world that there is a new way to play video games and naturally everyone is hopping on board because the industry is stirring, confirming everything Nintendo has been preaching since the concept of the Wii was revealed. The bottom line is this, no one will be able to truly replicate what Nintendo has done for a few years at best. Nintendo has spent a long time designing the perfect controller for this type of play and no quick hack from Sony or MS is going to top what Nintendo has done.

As for the XBOX 360 controller, it has the same number of buttons as the old controller(excluding the big Home button in the middle). They essentially made the Black and White buttons into a second set of triggers at the top of the controller.

General Gaming / RE: Playstation Magazine Disses Sony

I saw that video a couple of days ago and man was it funny. When it started I actually thought it was from 2000 or so. I'm glad that even PSM can see how half assed Sony has been lately.

General Gaming / Kameo Rocks!
« on: June 28, 2006, 04:16:01 PM »
Well I took the dive this past weekend and picked up a 360 and I must say I am thoroughly impressed. The system is sleek and has some really cool features(The controller turns the system on and off, pinnacle of awesomeness). But onto the main topic, Kameo!

This game is more than I expected. Quite honestly since Rare has left Nintendo the quality of their games has gone way down hill and Kameo really shows that Rare has something going for them. The environments are absolutely stunning, the puzzles are fun and the game has Rare written all over it, humor and all. I will say one thing though, anyone basing their opinion of this game off the demo, think again. The game starts off somewhat weak with the demo that is playable in stores, but after that part is completed you get into the really fun part of the game. Any of you holding out who own a 360, give it a shot. The game currently runs for about $25 on eBay and is totally worth it. Anyone else feel similarly about the game?

Everyone, do yourself a favor and avoid this movie at all costs. I went to see it last night and my god was it boring. Kevin Spacey did make a great Lex Luthor, but there was just not enough action in the movie. Sorry guys but this one gets two thumbs down.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: A Look Back at Eternal Darkness
« on: June 28, 2006, 02:55:33 AM »
Eternal Darkness was a phenomenal game and I would love to see a sequel in the future. Truly sad that the game didn't sell well. I did my part, I picked that beast up on opening day and I haven't stopped loving the game since. I believe I've beaten the game with all alignments 3 times (12 play throughs essentially).

Anybody have any cool ideas for an ED2?

Burnout 3: Takedown is hands down my favorite. Tons of courses, huge challenge and a bunch of fun. None of the other Burnouts come close to the awesomeness of 3, IMO. I suggest all of you go pick it up ASAP you won't be disappointed if you are fans of 2.

General Chat / RE: Opera 9 = sex
« on: June 24, 2006, 06:02:37 AM »
Opera's entire interface is very confusing and poorly organized. It has a ton of features none of which are easily accessible. It took me around 2 hours of tinkering to really figure the thing out and make it look the way I wanted it to look. Opera reminds me of Linux, tons of features, great speed and generally an excellent alternative to the competitors, but they both lack ease of use, have way too many hard to find preferences and take way to much tinkering to be at a stage where you are happy.

Granted I do use Opera on my mac as I stated before but it took awhile until I was happy with it, but it outperformed Firefox on so many levels I had no choice but to switch.

Opera 9 really is great, but then again I use a Mac. On my PC/Linux Box I tend to use Firefox because it has become comfortable over the many years I have used it. A word to the wise, if anyone out there uses Firefox on the Mac switch ASAP, you will see a HUGE performace increase.

General Chat / RE: Good News Everyone!
« on: June 23, 2006, 03:01:46 PM »
I totally hear you there Ian. Family Guy is nowhere near the quality it used to be, and I fear the same syndrome in Futurama. I do have quite a bit more confidence in the Futurama staff though and I think the show was that much more solid that it should be alright. I feel you too Stevey, 2008 is still a long ways off, all we can hope for is a leak of the episodes early or something.

Another thing that got me thinking, are the movies still going to come out? Doesn't seem logical if the show is going to be aired again, but then again, one could never have enough Futurama.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Always knew he was a phony
« on: June 23, 2006, 02:58:12 AM »
Artimus:
The anger here was really sparked by the editors at IGN. Kotaku simply covered the news that Matt was throwing in the towel , and then one of the other IGN editors actually posted in his blog a fake article to see if Brian Crecente would pick it up as an article, then claimed he was a poor journalist for posting the Casamassina story and should do better research next time. From that point Kotaku retaliated and it went no-holds barred, which I really could not blame them. Though Kotaku is a blog and they post alot of stuff some good, some bad they are always one step ahead of the rest. I catch pretty much all my news there the instant it happens. So I'm sure in this case they read about Matt and posted it as news ASAP because in the world of gaming journalism, this is as big as it gets.

Kotaku and IGN are fighting! Crecente posted on Kotaku that Matt was leaving, then Tal of IGN posted another fake blog entry just to be a dick and make fun of Kotaku. Then Crecente posts again ripping into IGN. I love this stuff, editors of sites hating on one another, made for a hilarious read this morning. Check it all out over at www.kotaku.com.

PS - I was happy when I first read about this, Casamassina is a dipshit.

Does anybody think we can get our voices heard someway? I'd love to see this release worldwide through the Nintendo rewards program but I have no clue what steps could be taken to make that happen. Anybody with any good ideas, lets hear 'em.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: SSBM online!
« on: June 17, 2006, 04:50:01 PM »
I really wish I had all the stuff to make this happen and some other people also willing to make this happen. Interesting none the less. All I want to know is how people come up with this stuff?

The original Smash Bros. was definitely amazing, but so was Melee. It is easy to pick out problems with each but both have advantages and both have disadvantages. The great thing is that they are two different games, and if you don't like one you can play the other. I am interested to see how Brawl winds up with all the new characters being introduced. All I ask for is balance. Fox was overpowered in SSB and Sheik/Zelda was too powerful/fast in SSBM. Balance issues really make the game annoying at times and I would love to see each character having an equal opportunity to be awesome.

Glad I'm not the only one who won't support them Pale. By the way you ever shop at the Game Craze stores out here? Sometimes they have some good deals on newer games and they are great for picking up older games. I'm glad there is alternative out here in Rochester, NY, hopefully the rest of you guys have someplace local to grab some better deals.
