You may have heard that Nintendo just released 3DS demos here in the States. We at Connectivity thought this brilliant concept, the "demo," was so good that maybe we should give it a shot, too. So enjoy this demo episode, but be warned that after 12 and 1/3 listens, the demo will expire. It also requires 1350 blocks of free space.

This week's episode is kicked off with some news and listener mail. Scott, Zach, Patrick and Mike each try to glitch the segment and warp to the very end, but alas, it wouldn't work.

After that, we have a very special edition of Famicast Lite, as Danny, Daan, and James come together to spill the beans on the variety of demos already available for the 3DS in Japan. That's right; this demo episode put demos in your demo. Internet meme!

Lastly, Neal, Scott, Mike and Zach debate Swapnote. Is there a cold, calculated, and brooding genius behind Swapnote, or is the damn thing just cumbersome and purposefully difficult? Probably the latter.

You can click here to send us listener mail. Better yet, why not send us listener mail through Swapnote? It's a guaranteed way to piss off Neal. And what day isn't made better by pissing off Neal? Enjoy the demo!

How does one send Swapnotes to Connectivity?

oksodaScott Thompson, Associate EditorJanuary 21, 2012

Good question. I would say, send it to myself or Zach since we check swapnote the most. Also, mention somewhere in the note that you are asking a question for the show, so we know it's not just normal swapnotage.

dkopman1January 21, 2012

What is the Connectivity staffs friend codes, more specifically Zach Miller's friend code. No offense but I am really interested in these pictures that Zach sends out. My friend code is 2921 9097 2459

oksodaScott Thompson, Associate EditorJanuary 21, 2012

OFFENSE TAKEN!

Mine is 5284 1449 7471. Zach's is 1590 4699 1012.

I tried out the demo of this, and I am afraid that it did not convince me to make a full purchase of the product in question. Perhaps on a future occasion... :p

readyletsgoJanuary 22, 2012

Scott and Zack, I added you both just there, my friend code is 1418 6784 3680.
Add me when you get the chance.

Also, just played and finished the demo too, so glad I pre-ordered it from zavvi, I get the game and the CPP free with it for €37 including post! Roll on 27th Jan!!!

Might've mentioned it if there wasn't so much "down there" and more "up top."

Warning: this podcast will self-destruct after 30 plays.

I'm pretty sure SwapNote isn't actually "downloading" them - it's loading them.  You can be offline during the SwapNote "Download."

Regardless, it takes a stupidly long time. Furthermore, it loads them again whenever I select a note. What the hell is it loading if it loads when you click on a note!

If they're already downloaded and it's taking that long just to load them I'd argue that's even worse than it not downloading them in the background.

I agree. Recently opened up Swapnote while out and about (without an internet connection) and it had no problem "downloading" new messages for me to read. My guess is that the messages were already downloaded while my system was sleeping, and just had to be extracted before being read.

Can we suggest our own conversion scheme for blocks to data?

I suggest 100 blocks is 1 Jessica Alba.

noname2200January 25, 2012

Regarding Majora's Mask, Mike mentioned that he was about to face the dungeon's boss when he ran out of time, so he didn't want to re-do the entire sequence to unlock the dungeon/go through the dungeon etc. to face the boss.

Good news: the game is designed around the time limit, so you won't ever have to redo things again. Once you've unlocked a dungeon, you can warp straight to it on subsequent playthroughs, so you won't have to monkey around with the first part of the quest. Once you get a dungeon's item, you can use it on subsequent playthroughs to cut through about half the dungeon.  And once you've beaten a boss, you can warp straight to it on subsequent playthroughs, so accessing an area's post-boss content is relatively easy (although you'll still have to re-defeat the boss, unfortunately).

In other words, the game is much less tedious than you think!

It's just clicked, we can call it the Zach Miller Conversion Table.

If it's ME, Alba wouldn't even be ON the Conversion Table.

PlugabugzJanuary 27, 2012

So who would 100 blocks (and beyond) convert to then sir?

ejamerJanuary 27, 2012

Alba? Seems kind of insubstantial. My guess would've been more along the lines of Christina Hendricks...

I'll be on next episode's news segment to eat a bunch of crow over the "3DS downloading full retail games never happening ever" comment I made a few weeks back. I'm honestly shocked by it, and I'll still be mildly negative on it happening until I can download a full game on my system.

To paraphrase Jaws, we're gonna need a bigger SD card.

Hendricks would be toward the top of the scale, obviously. She and Sofia Vergara. I think Salma Hayek and Diora Baird would be toward the middle.

YES. A million times yes.

MorcantJanuary 28, 2012

Yeah, once you learn the Song of Soaring and the song that unlocks the actual dungeon (in Majoras Mask) you are set. And of course the Song of Inverted Time, without which the game would be impossible. I am at the Woodfall boss right now, but have had to go back to him once or twice because I can't remember how to beat him.

I also added Zach and Scott ( and Neal) to my friend list. My code is 5370 1004 4080.

xcwarriorJanuary 31, 2012

Thanks for talking about my question, though clearly I should have said which games they've mentioned that SHOULD be coming out here, but lack a release date:

Fire Emblem, Monster Hunter, Braviery default, Monster Hunter, Theatrhythm Final Fantasy and did I mention Monster Hunter?

Got a news tip? Send it in!
