You know, at some point it'd be nice to write about a price DECREASE.

Alongside a reminder of the Switch 2's price increase next week came a pair of bundle offers for the North American markets.

Nintendo of America has announced two Switch 2 and game bundles to come following the Sept 1 raise of the Switch 2's base retail price to US$499.99. The first will be the return of the Mario Kart World bundle (including three months of individual Nintendo Switch Online membership) in "late September", possibly tied to the Sept 17 launch of Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, at a MSRP of $549.99 (also up $50). This will likely replace the current "pick a game" bundle.

The other bundle will come on October 22 and will include Nintendo Switch Sports Resort and the three month NSO at a MSRP of $529.99. As with Mario Kart, the copy of Switch Sports Resort will be a digital code included in the box.

Eh, I'm not really excited about the pack-ins.  I was hoping they would stick with a Pokopia bundle.  I'd be fine with the existing "pick-a-game" bundle but with a price increase.  Not that I was going to get a Switch 2 any time soon but now I would wait for a different bundle.

Yeah, I wonder why they went away from the pick-a-game bundle here. Maybe they've got data that Donkey Kong and Pokopia, while successful, are flattening out in driving new demand? Maybe the deal for Pokopia, since The Pokemon Company is technically involved as an outside party, has a time limit on it being used as a bundle?

Either way, recommitting to the Mario Kart bundle is interesting given at launch they initially hinted it was a temporary offering. And technically the Nintendo Switch Sports Resort is another option and an especially interesting psychological offering at just $30 more.

What will ALSO be interesting is if Nintendo chooses to make any value moves for holiday shopping season/Black Friday after technically "losing" last November's US sales headline contest by doing nothing that month while Sony did some heavy PS5 discounting.

Then again, they lost Black Friday but are still the fastest selling console of all time worldwide so far... maybe they're fine not making additional discount-based incentives come this Black Friday?
