Diddy Kong Joins the Brawl

DK's simian pal is the newest Smash Bros. fighter.

First appearing in the Rare-developed platformer, Donkey Kong Country, thirteen years ago, Diddy Kong has recently appeared in the Donkey Konga series, Diddy Kong Racing DS, and several Mario spin-off games. Though conspicuously absent as even a trophy in Super Smash Bros. Melee, DK's buddy now enters the arena as the latest fighter to be unveiled for Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

The slightly late update on Smash Bros. DOJO notes that Diddy's moves aren't sufficiently captured in static screenshots. It also mentions that Diddy packs some technological devices from Donkey Kong 64: the Rocketbarrel Boost and the Peanut Pop Gun, though these are not yet demonstrated. Can someone describe those weapons for those of us who have not played Donkey Kong 64?

The rocket barrel was a jet pack that let diddy fly around worlds similar to FLUDD though i believe it was faster and controled much different.

the peanut shooter was a peanut shooting pistol. Every character had a unique gun that shot out fruit or something, the peanut shooter was his, and i believe he used two of them but my memory of the game is fuzzy.

donkey kong had a coconut shotgun which was cool, i'd love to see that as an item

Just wanted to mention: Diddy isn't a chimpanzee. He's a monkey. Monkeys have tails. Chimps do not.

Yeah, she seems like another likely addition. I'd personally love King K. Rool too... although I guess he might be too close to Bowser in potential playstyle.

Damn furries...

All kidding aside, I suspect that Krystal might be in Brawl as a Fox clone (or an individual character). Realistically, though, they might use the Krystal from the newest Star Fox game so Adventure's Krystal might be out of the question.

What I like about Diddy in the game is that he represents the DKC franchise (I know DK is the star of the DKC games, but he is also Mario's main nemesis. Diddy is the only DKC character that was not a Mario character before).

Diddy is a nice addition. It gives Donky a partner in series.

Heh. If Krystal is added, I hope she gets her staff and not some blaster. The staff in Adventure was sweet.
