SAN FRANCISCO & LONDON (January 8, 2007) - SEGA® of America, Inc. and SEGA Europe Ltd. today announced five titles from its SEGA Genesis™ library, Streets of Rage, Bio-Hazard Battle, Gain Ground, Comix Zone and Bonanza Bros. will soon be available on the Wii™ Shop Channel for download and play on the Wii's Virtual Console. Prices start at 800 Wii Points for SEGA Genesis titles. Wii Points can be purchased online or at select retailers at an MSRP of $20 for 2,000 points.

"The Wii Shop Channel is a great avenue for gamers who want instant access to classic SEGA Genesis titles," said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Marketing, SEGA of America, Inc. "Legendary titles such as Streets of Rage, Comic Zone and Bonanza Bros. are a perfect fit for this platform and will be ready for download later this month."

Q1 2007 Line Up:

• Streets of Rage - This city was once a happy, peaceful, place…until one day, a powerful secret criminal organization took over. This vicious syndicate soon had control of the government and even the police force. The city has become a center of violence and crime where no one is safe. Amid this turmoil, a group of determined young police officers has sworn to clean up the city. Among them are Adam Hunter, Axel Stone, and Blaze Fielding. They decided to put their lives on the line and take back their city through their special hand-to-hand combat abilities. They are willing to risk anything, even their lives, on the Streets of Rage. • Bio-Hazard Battle - An army of biogenetic mutants has gone haywire, terrorizing the world and putting the future of the planet in jeopardy. It's up to you to take on the mutant menace and restore order and harmony to the planet Avaron, before it's too late! Through eight levels of intense action, you'll be up against some of the nastiest, most vile creatures you've ever seen, things like mega amoebas, nuclear crabs, electroworms, and gut-grabbing insects. You have four different Bioship fightercraft to choose from, each with unique handling capabilities and weapons systems. Your mission will take you through cavernous mineshafts, the ocean floor, and the Biowar Lab, each populated by heinous creatures that only man could have created. Hop into your fightercraft and save Avaron from certain doom. (1992/© SEGA)

• Gain Ground - It's the 31st Century, and science and technology have progressed to the point that the human race is approaching perfection: no war, no poverty, and no conflict. With nothing to worry about, the human race seems destined to live forever in harmony; but what if Earth came under attack? By this point in time, people did not know how to cope with problems or conflicts, and had completely lost their survival instincts. In response to this, the United Earth Government created the Gain Ground system, a war simulator that would help humans rediscover their lost instincts. After several terrible malfunctions, the creators became prisoners in their own creation. Now it's up to you and two courageous comrades to go into the Gain Ground system, rescue your fellow humans, and destroy the system. You'll battle through different periods in history as you revive your survival instincts, while trying to stay alive! (1991/© SEGA)

• Comix Zone - Sketch Turner is an artist in New York City. One day while Sketch is drawing, there is a huge thunderstorm and a bolt of lightning hits Sketch's image, bringing it to life. That image is Mortus, a megalomaniac mutant who wants to become real and rule the earth. Mortus magically transports Sketch into the pages of his comic book so that he can end his creator's life and become real. Inside the comic book, Sketch meets General Alissa Cyan, who believes he is a superhero that came to save their post-apocalyptic world from the evil brought by Mortus' hand. Now that he's a comic book superhero, Sketch can fight like a one-man mercenary platoon! (1995/© SEGA)

• Bonanza Bros. - Mobo and Robo Bonanza are enjoying their favorite television show when the picture crackles and the shadowy figure of a mysterious stranger appears on screen. This figure asks them to collect certain items that he has placed inside various buildings to test his security force. If they return the items successfully, Mobo and Robo will be rewarded. The two of them agree to get the job done in just three minutes, however, they don't know yet that each building is packed with security guards who will raise the alarm if they are caught red-handed and a huge reward will be given out if Mobo and Robo are apprehended. Fortunately both Mobo and Robo are equipped with bullets that can knock the guards unconscious for a few seconds. Help the infamous Bonanza Bros. infiltrate a number of different locations ranging from banks to mansions to casinos and don't get caught! (1991/© SEGA)

COMIXZONE?!

Okay, I'm happy now.

couchmonkeyJanuary 08, 2007

I'm pretty interested in that one too. I remember it getting some good press back in the day.

Smash_BrotherJanuary 08, 2007

Thank god Sega isn't afraid to release some of their heavy hitters...

capamericaJanuary 08, 2007

These are some of Sega's heavy hitter? O_o

The OmenJanuary 08, 2007

I believe Sega is being allowed to release their heavy hitters as a favor from Nintendo.

And I'm actually interested in all of these.

Having your Wii pimped, eh?

tonythekittyJanuary 08, 2007

No my wiis graphics got messed uo but nintendo fixed it in like 3 days which is pretty cool. It will take another 3 days to get fedexed back to me tho. This will be the first VC week i missed out on and I am jonesing to see the new stuff, plus play my dloads from last week. I had just gotten about 1/2 way thru super castlevania IV when it frotzed on me.

Smash_BrotherJanuary 08, 2007

Ack. That sucks.

At least Nintendo is good about getting them replaced and/or fixed.

If I'm not mistaken, aren't you the guy who said that Nintendo was giving you a hard time about replacing VC games you already purchased? Did you ever get that sorted out?

TJ SpykeJanuary 08, 2007

Comix Zone was a hard game, partially due to poor design choices by Sega.

I really wish they would drop Genesis prices to 600 points, I don't like having to pay 800 for them.

Streets of Rage 4000 points confirmed. Bio-Hazard Battle certainly is an odd choice. Odd in the good way! But this list needs more SUPER FANTASY ZONE.

DjunknownJanuary 08, 2007

Looks like Sega of America hasn't forgotten the Streets of Rage Franchise. The first one was ok, but part 2 is simply golden.

I miss the hilarious story lines of the early nineties. Only then could you get away with such wackiness...

Looking good Sega, looking good!

tonythekittyJanuary 08, 2007

Yea I was the one with the VC problem, and I wont know for sure how it turned out until I get it back. I do know that they repaired my existing Wii instead of replacing it so maybe my games will be intact.

Gain Ground looks oddly appealing going by the wikipedia article...

Oh, and I keep hearing that SoR 1 is ok, but that the sequels are the actual good games in the series?

Once again I remind the world that three of these games, Comix Zone, Gain Ground, and Bonanza Bros are all available on the Sega Genesis Collection on PS2, which costs a mere $20. If you were planning on buying all three of the above, then it's already cheaper to just get the PS2 game, but let's not forget that it also includes the entire Ecco franchise, several Golden Axe, Sonic, and Vectorman games, Ristar and more.

segagamer12January 09, 2007

Sure Sveven, assuming you HAVE a ps2, if not its cheaper to just get them on Wii.

BIOHAZARDBATTLE! I LOVED THAT GAME, I still have it complete and everything for My Genesis, Still gonna download it so I can play that inbetween Zelda breaks. SOR 2 was the BEST in the series I thought, I hope they get that one on in the near future also.

If you like Side scrolling Shooters Biohazard battle is one of the better ones around. It has two player coop and has tons of powerups to chose form and the art design is fantastic, everything looks friggin cool and the music is some of Segas BEST on the Genesis. Plus the boss fights are pretty intense and make for good fun. I havent played in awhile but I think it also has adjustable difficulty, anywyas its a great game and I, as should others who have played it, highly recomend this game.

Comix Zone was good too, the others on here I dont remember too well.
