Which is Your Favorite Nintendo Third Party Partner
« on: April 02, 2013, 09:14:24 AM »

In recent years, Nintendo has taken the strategy of partnering with a number of smaller third party development studios to supplement their own software.

Companies like Next Level Games, who made the recent Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon for 3DS, as well as the Mario Strikers games and the Wii reboot of Punch-Out, and Monster Games, who developed cult favorite Excitebots, as well as 3DS launch title Pilotwings Resort and the upcoming 3DS port of Donkey Kong Country Returns, have worked a lot with Nintendo in recent years. At the same time, companies like Renegade Kid and WayForward, while not formal partners in the sense of the companies above, have been loyal supporters of Nintendo's download platforms.

My question to the NWR community is which of these companies, whether mentioned here or not, do you feel has been most beneficial to Nintendo on their current and last-generation hardware?

I think Team Ninja have been the most beneficial partner. Afterall, they gave us the much beloved Metroid: Other M; which was a love letter to Metroid fans, giving them everything they could possibly want and more, and which in no way tried to exploit the great wealth of feeling for Super Metroid.

...

Joking aside, my favourite 'partner' would probably be Next Level. I really enjoyed Strikers Charged, adored Punch Out!! and am really digging Dark Moon so far.

internal development studio, within capcom but not capcom itself, capcom is a developer as much as nintendo is (as in not really)
that studio(capcom production studio 1) would count for this but capcom wouldn't :D

Holy....

An internal development studio (one of many), wholly owned and operated by Capcom and Capcom doesn't get to call themselves developers.

And now, Nintendo isn't a developer?

That's really splitting hairs.
When Nintendo pays the Developer its royalties who does it pay?  Capcom.
Who does the HR? Capcom.
Who do you negotiate with?  Capcom.

By my understanding the different production studios are not their own taxable entities so in the end that's like saying Cashiers at Sears are a different department so they are a different company.

Also JP used the term Partners not Individual Studios.  Technically using the term used and he does say companies you could branch out to even McDonald's as a Developer of Food and Marketing.  I say they have been beneficial in maintaining the main stream Nintendo Brand.

Arguing that Capcom is not a developer is really semantic. Capcom has a number of development arms and they have an umbrella organisation which effectively self publishes. They're a developer and publisher.

Hmm...I'd have to side w/ Capcom, with Next-Level Games as the runner-up. Capcom's support on Nintendo platforms may be all over the place compared to their support elsewhere, but they can usually be counted on every console generation to bring a handful of noteworthy titles to Nintendo (RE Revelations on 3DS; RE4, RE Umbrella/Darkside Chronicles, Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, and Zack & Wiki on Wii; etc.).

My hands down to this day favorite third party game is still Time splitters 2 and that came out on the GC. So either Free Radical or Eidos. Whichever you prefer.

Definitely Sandlot. They made the best motion plus game on the Wii and gave it the best online multiplayer seen on that system as well.

Looking at it from Japan's perspective I'll say SquareEnix and Capcom, who publish the biggest franchises in the country solely on Nintendo platforms. On this side of the world, well, I can't think of a single company Nintendo has healthy relations with except Ubisoft.

My favorite would be Capcom.  RE4 Wii edition is one of the best games ever. I also enjoyed the RE UC & DC games as well.

I'd like Capcom more if they made more Viewtiful Joe for Nintendo systems.

I'd like Square-Enix more if they made more Final Fantasy Tactics for Nintendo systems.
