Ok, I'm wondering why some of you say that you don't really get into fighting games because it's easy for another good player hand you your arse. I say, and it's always been my experience, to play a game alone and often to at least get the hang of one character before you start with a human opponent. Kilik was my all-time favorite fighter in SC on the DC and I got pretty good with him. I often beat my girlfriend, her cousins and her cousins step-sons with him or another couple of characters I got proficient with. Not saying I was the best, just that I did my homework and had a strategy. You don't have to memorize moves and combos with SC like you do with "combo fests" like Mortal Kombat and Killer Instinct. It is very much a "PICK UP AND PLAY" game.
About SSB: M, I really liked it when I rented it, but because of the frantic action on-screen my girlfriend never really liked it as she lost sight of her character every time she played. I did have Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, but even though some of the extras were cool, it just bored me to death. Freedom of movement was good, as well as the option of using weapons, but the extras, IMO, were "BLEH!!!!!!". I mean, come on! Most of the extras in the Krypt were just renders and concept art. Some nice videos, extra characters and some bio about the arts and weapons thrown in for the "hardcore" fighting fan. It sucked when you saved enough money to open a Kasket only to find it empty. Midway should have done their homework and completely made the gameplay a cross between SC and VF/Last Bronx. Took that game back to EB and traded it in for Wind Waker. It would be great if Nintendo themselves made a fighting game that would rival the trinity of excellence in fighting games: Tekken, Virtua Fighter, Soul Calibur. HOpefully next generation.
Now to respond to you, Strell. I never said anything about why PS2 keeps on getting Tekken. I thought everyone knew that:
[On Phone]
Sony: Hey guys! Kaz here. How would you like to keep Tekken on PS2 only, huh?
Namco: We kinda wanted to bring over Tekken to the GCN and really take it in new directions.
Sony: Heh. We'll pay you 30 Billion Yen to keep it exclusive or else we'll let everyone know what you did with those motion-capture
fighters in your dungeon.
Namco: Really? Deal then! We would love to keep it on PS2!
Sony: Great! Just dot your initials on the contract I'm sending you by my persoal carrier. Don't mind his appearance. He was born with
with that hump. And the horns. And the forked tail. Some kind of radiation mutation from Hiroshima.
Besides, you're saying I'm ranting like a loon? That's the only way to go on the 'net, don't you know. I really LOVE fighting games. Have since day one when I got my first one. Just wish there was some other way to get the ones I want but I can't really afford it since I have a 2 yr old to think about and splurging on a PS2 for Tekken and VF just isn't responsible parenting. Still, I already pre-ordered SC2 and that was before Link showed himself. Just wish there was more to choose from. Don't know how good DragonBall Z is and I require more than 15 moves per fighter. Commercials on it looked good though and I am a big fan of the cartoons. Can't wait till GT starts on CN.
