They used a steamship in the last game. The technology isn't very different, one is on a track and the other is in the water.

Phantom Hourglass is easily one of my favorite Zelda games so count me in as excited.

I never care for this type of argument. It's fair to assume that whenever someone says they want something that they have some unspoken expectations about the details. If I order a hamburger at a restaurant and they give it to me overcooked on a stale bun with nothing else on it, sorry, you can't say "well that's you wanted, pal." I shouldn't have to specify that the burger be prepared in some conventional manner and taste good and such.

No one who wants steampunk Zelda was talking about cartoony Link opperating a choo-choo in his pajamas in a world that otherwise appears to resemble the standard fantasy Zelda style. I don't even have a problem with the train but to call it steampunk is insane. It doesn't meet the expectations that one should not have to specify. I personally would like to see a Zelda in a different era of technology but if they do they should do it full-blown and not just introduce one element that looks a little out of place.

To be fair though the Zelda world has had bombs in it from day one. It's not completely out of character for steam engines to exist. The telephones in Link's Awakening are much more out of place.

So I watched the trailer and it looks nice.The use of the items are well thought out.I am pretty excited for this game.

TP's Spinner was far closer to steampunk than a simple train. Plus, in Zelda you never know what weird magical power is behind the mundane looking technology (though it's typically fairy abuse; maybe the train engine is full of fairies on hamster wheels).

Link needs to catch fairies and grind them into fuel for his train. He shovels fairy bits into the engine like coal.

Thats why I'm saying thats the direction the games, as a whole, are heading, sorry for the confusion.

Who was expecting that? People just want something new and if handled correctly, it could be great for the franchise. Eventually, Hyrule has to evolve technologically among other things? What's wrong with exploring that?

Yeah, this is not one step towards steam punk. I doubt Nintendo will ever let it go that way. It is a loud minority that wants the steam punk.

And this is something new that they are exploring.

Well in a recent interview with Miyamoto that was linked to on another part of the forum. This game is going to be more challenging then past Zeldas.

Sadly that is not saying much. Most of the previous Zeldas were relatively easy. The last one I recall actually having serious issues with was Link to the Past's final boss and The Ocarina Master Quest if you count that.
