Bill if you play Valkyria Chronicles on PS3 I bet you will be really surprised that VC it is a internally developed Sega title.

I hate SRPGs, so I don't think I'd be able to judge it in an unbiased manner... =)

I usually can't get into SRPGs either, but something about the demo for VC still got my attention.  The Skies of Arcadia feel definitely shines through.

They are?!!!  Okay I think with that and Metal Gear Solid 4 and Disgaea 3 I might be able to convince my brother to buy a PS3, which I naturally will spend some time as well. ;)

Don't get your hopes up too high.  They're just faces among the soldiers you can assign to your squad.

Augh

Why are you guys talking about rpgs in the TMNT thread?? >:(

What I want to know: which people, specifically, from TN/HAL/Whatever are doing what jobs, specifically, in the production of this game. I don't want it to be "the sound effects guy" from Brawl and "manual designer" from Ninja Gaiden. I mean, they tried to attach Blizzard cred to Hellgate London and it turned out to be the worst game ever. Hurf durf.

I hate SRPGs too, the strategy apparently consists of minmaxing your characters, something I really don't like.

Anyway, I wonder if this will turn out any good...

Well it's not like everyone has to have the same tastes in games, right? =)

I just find them too high-stress to enjoy...

Oh, and some more details copy/pasted...

Quote
- ‘dark and edgy’ visuals
- ‘We were guaranteed that our ears wouldn’t have to suffer through endless loops of Turtles quips like ‘Slice and dice!’
- no specific generation of TMNT being referenced
- more details about fighting that we don’t know yet
- swing off ledges to do jump-kicks and more
- multiple control schemes (Wiimote, Wiimote and Nunchuk)
- motion controls, but not many
- taunts
- items
- change match settings
- story mode iss ‘not a sidescroller like Subspace Emissary’
- “4 player online is also planned, and the developers are working hard to deliver a smooth experience free of the issues that hindered Brawl. They also want to add something unique to the mix, so expect a new twist or two.â€

So I saw the pictures from the new Nintendo Power. It looks very slick, the character models for the turtles look good. Strong Smash Bros feel. Stages are pretty.

Even though he fully owns the characters, I bet Dark Horse gets a cut of licensing deals.  But I could be wrong.  I can find out (but I won't).  Either way, I'm very excited!

Going from Congress' records, they only credit Stan Sakai in terms of rights for the stuff published with the character, such as this record:

http://cocatalog.loc.gov/cgi-bin/Pwebrecon.cgi?v1=3&ti=1,3&Search_Arg=Usagi%20Yojimbo&Search_Code=TALL&CNT=25&PID=qCtVXddVLUeXdA0WUXg8Jiir&SEQ=20081222192301&SID=1

Not definitive proof, but Dark Horse doesn't seem to be listed in any of their records for the character or merchandise related to him.

Considering that they tried hard to bury any memory of the old 80s cartoons with the 2003 series I doubt they would revisit the crappy Saban series.

Not really, they threw cameos here and there. The banana jumpsuit April wore while she was stalling the army outside the TGRI building was an obvious throwback to the eighties show.

Not that I really blame them for trying to forget about the old cartoon. ;D

Yeah, but Casey made fun of it, calling it a radioactive jump suit.

What I find funny is that people criticized the new series for being too serious and gritty, nothing like the old cartoony. Yet, very few realize that the original comics were dark and gritty, perhaps too gritty despite its silly subject.

Ever since the 2003 revival the turtles are more serious, but still retain humor. The 2007 movie was like this, and this game looks to follow the same path.

The original TMNT comics were awesome.  It reminded me of some of Frank Miller's stuff, actually.  Very dark.  When I first saw the cartoon I TV I wanted to barf.

I personally loved the cartoon as a kid. Many of us did.  It wasn't till I met Capamerica that I learned that there was a massive history behind the series and that the cartoon was NOT the ultimate representation of the franchise.

What Maxi is saying is right, though. As cheesy and campy as the original cartoon series was it did help propel the turtles into superstardom. Without the series we wouldn't have gotten the awesome 2007 movie or the new TV series.

Its like how the 60s Batman paved the way to "The Dark Knight" last year.

It is depressing reading that the story mode is not a side scroller like Brawl...does that means it is not going to a side scroller at all?

I was truly hoping they would create a story mode to play like the original Turtle games, that would be the smartest decision they could make.

Also, I think characters from all Era of Turtles history should be accepted, and I will see Stan Sakai at Staple in Austin, Texas and will ask if he has heard about the new Ninja Turtles game and if he can see about getting Usagi in the game.
