This will quickly and efficiently demonstrate that I have antisocial personality disorder.

Fixed.

http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2004/3/19/

Deal with it.

The flaw is you went to gamefaqs.

Honestly, I wouldn't trade codes at GFaqs for fear of exactly this happening. I live with my GF and I wouldn't want to be concerned that someone on AC would say something obscene to her.

I admit that AC is probably a slighter example, since sensible people won't trade friend codes with people unless they know they're not going to clearcut their town or anything, but I definitely wouldn't feel comfortable trading codes for SSBB or MK, knowing these people could hear what's going on in the room and could speak to everyone in the room at any time.

But that's a problem because I've NEEDED to go to places like Smashboards to find players to play against on a regular basis, since most people here are often busy, and I prefer the convenience of voice chat to having to use the software keyboard or using AIM on my laptop to communicate with people, so the only option would be to swap codes and eliminate the assclowns later, which means they have a chance to spout profanity to someone watching me play before I can shut them down.

I love voice chat, but Nintendo didn't need to reinvent the wheel just for the sake of being different. Headsets are ubiquitous because they got the job done.

Just for kicks, I'm going to go on gamefaqs and swap AC codes with everyone (because people swap codes with strangers all the time, something Nintendo should probably know about), then start voicechatting and when it becomes clear there's family in the room, I'm going to start telling my own special version of "The Aristocrats" joke.

This is the best idea I've ever heard.

Technically they didnt reinvent it because its already in a PS3 setup known as the PS eye which has a very good multi-array microphone on it. I'm sure Nintendo will have the mic equipped with a background noise reducer tech in it.
And anyways you know that your supposed to swap friend codes with friends ;) not random goons on stuff like Neogaf, gamefaqsgamespot,NWR, destructoid or gonintendo.

So there was one potential issue with Nintendo's WiiSpeak microphone that it announced at E3. If the thing is supposed to sit on top of your television set and record all the noise in the room, won't the loudest noise it records be the cacophany of game sounds coming out of your television set?

Not so, says Animal Crossing: City Folk producer Katsuya Eguchi.

"There's some noise filtering going on. It's designed to pick up stuff other than what's coming out of the TV. If you put this on your TV, if this was a regular microphone, you'd get your TV sound going in. But this is a USB plug-in. So the sound coming out of your TV is going into the Wii Speak, and when it goes back into the Wii, it throws that sound away."

On the subject of voice chat in general and his company's longtime opposition to the feature, Eguchi said: "We really don't consider ourselves 'anti-voice-chat.' Once of the things we've said for years now is that we've wanted to provide a safe environment that people didn't feel nervous about going into. With games like Mario Kart and Smash Bros., because you can play against anybody, rivals or whoever's out there, and they're games where tempers can be frayed and people might use language that's not appropriate for everyone to hear, we didn't feel that those titles were appropriate to have a voice-chat feature."

"However, with Animal Crossing, you're going to be chatting with your friends. There's no Animal Crossing "rivals" or any sort of open gameplay like that. So we figured that as long as people have registered each other as their friends and they're comfortable with that, then we're fine giving them the ability to chat with each other."

A Skype Channel? It ties in system based friend codes and your online account for a single solution?

It seems like a far easier solution than anything else.

He means that it will filter out noise and will track human voices.

I think that could be very possible because each Wii system has an email address based on your console friend code for example my wii's email address is: w6564080270642744@wii.com

Ugg...

This pretty much confirms my worst fears. God willing, someone will figure out how to rig a headset up to a Wii and get some real voice chat going on.

The Conduit Will use Wiispeak for Online battle

http://www.nintendowiifanboy.com/2008/07/16/e308-the-conduit-will-use-wiispeak/

I am not a fan of headsets. I have a Blu-Tooth one and sometimes it works fine, sometimes it sounds HORRIBLE.

If anything I like the idea of doing podcasts with this. I'm cheap and don't want to buy lots of mics or whatever so we just hold the single webcam or headset in the center of us as we ready to post youtube videos.

So I might use this for personal use on my computer than use it for Wii-Games.

I played some online with my blu-tooth headset chatting with a friend and honestly it didn't add anything to the experience. So whatever

Been awhile since I've posted here. Forgot all my old info and couldn't regain it for some reason, I had to make a new profile.

I really don't see what the big problem is. For awhile now, plenty of people of all sorts, have been wanting some type of voice communication on the Wii. Now that we finally get something, it went straight to the firing range. Everyone wants to nitpick it and a lot of people just aren't happy with it. I can understand where most of the general skeptics are coming from, but there is always a simple work around to everything. I really like the idea that you can hear over your TV and everyone has a chance to hear/talk in the room. I am concerned about BG noise too, but I think this really isn't to serious of a problem and Nintendo most likely has worked around a lot of things with it. I never really cared for the headphones on XBox Live, and I always had the setting for the voices to come out of the speakers instead. I always thought the game sounds were way to high compared to voices, and I always had a hard time hearing. Even when the Inbound was at full, and I turn down my sound settings in the game. I don't remember exactly, but I think if you turn down the game sound settings, it would turn down the voices too even. That is my only concern with WiiSpeak at the moment.

I also understand a lot of people don't want children to hear vulgar language too. I know it's an inconvenience, but can't you just plug headphones into your television or sound system? Even wireless headphones these days aren't as expensive as they used to be. I also wouldn't doubt that Nintendo has some plan for this, and like the DS, you would need each others friends code to talk to each other over mics. It brings in some limitations, but having hopefully a good technology like this will bring a lot more to the Wii experience, and brings something to the system people have been begging for since the beginning. I guess I really don't see the problem here, and personally think people are nitpicking to much at this. There's always a simple work around and I think I'd rather have the option of everyone hearing/talking in the room. Either way your going to be limited, but I think WiiSpeak has more options than headphones all together.

that's what you think.  ;)

I have wiifriends that I send them a wii message in the middle of the night.
the message says something stupid like 'boobies are soft and you just wasted your time opening this wiiemail"  they get all excited to see the blue and usually respond how angry they are for waking up just for that.

I'm crazy like that.

I wonder if you could do that with wiispeak. You just talk into the microphone in the middle of the night to scare somebody. 3am.

"hello........is anyone out there.............I'm the TV ...............And I really want you to TURN ME ON............."

if I can use the wiispeak for cheap laughs and scare people in the middle of the night with my voice than great
