A Note About Moving Your Character From DS to Wii:

I thought I would be able to get over and cheat the HRA by importing my character with awesome rare items that I've been sporting in my old town so I pack my Metroid, Triforce, Arwing, Heroes Sword and my juke box with all my KK songs.
I get on the bus, shoot the **** and get off the bus. I check my pockets and I have nothing! It's all gone! Those bastards lost my luggage!!

Potential can be a dirty word when it comes to reviewing games, but the fact is that City Folk has an amazing pedigree, and it was expected to carry the torch forward with comparable amounts of innovation that could live up to the unprecedented standards set forth by the ever-imaginative Wii. Some of the ideas posited include different (initially selectable) town environments, an open online auction house, collectible playable mini-games (multiplayer) to help replace the gaping hole left by the removal of collectible NES titles, all-new music, and a larger, more interactive city (get a job, stay the night, meet others online, etc.). Any of these things could have vastly improved the experience.

Even some of the ideas which were initially assumed to be included didn’t make it in. For example, you still cannot visit another person’s town while they’re away—unless, of course, you have the patience and logistical wherewithal to take advantage of the new “DS Suitcase” feature, which requires you to copy your town data to your Nintendo DS, place it in sleep mode, and bring it to a friend’s house while they connect to it on their Wii. What happened to WiiConnect24 and the prospect of an Animal Crossing channel? As an enormous fan of the series, it’s hard not to be seriously disappointed that the same innovative forces that led to the creation of the first two titles—and, in fact, the Wii—didn’t play a greater role in the development of Animal Crossing: City Folk.

Can't say I didn't see this coming, though. Ah well.

The biggest kick in the teeth is the lack of WiiConnect24 support to allow you to visit towns while the players aren't there.

I mean, last I checked, that was one of the coolest features WC24 was supposed to offer.

I still want to try the game out, mainly because I loved relaxing with the GC version and squinting at a DS screen was just never the same experience.

however if you can't carry items is just useless. I'll guess I'll stick with Wild World anyway.

I just picked this up a few hours ago with wii speak. Haven't been able to try out wii speak, but so far I've been enjoying the game. The changes aren't revolutionary, but I've been waiting for a console version of animal crossing for awhile, and for some reason couldn't really get into the DS version. I like the changes they added, but probably for most players it isn't enough to pick up the game.

I imported my DS character, which is a cool feature. I don't mind starting broke. It's just how the game goes.

So I'd like to hear some people's impressions of what's going on in the auction house for them.

When I was able to put an item up, I put a cow skull up. All the pedestals were empty except for one with my cow skull.

Now that we are in limbo between putting objects up and bidding, a new object is there... and it says it wasy put up by PGCLasse.

Now this blows my mind. It seems like too much of a coincidence to say that that isn't the european correspondent for this site. It's gotta be him.

The only person on my friends list is Bloodworth from the Game Trailers Wii. I'm soooo confused as to this. What determines what items we see?

Ok, apparently visible AH items are based off your actual Wii friend list, not your AC friend list....

That's cool, but will be totally lame if those are the only items you can bid on. That means stuff will very rarely sell up there....

I picked it up! Though it's the same animal crossing we know and love, I'm still enjoying it. Wiispeak just adds an entire new level to playing with your friends online, even if it's a casual experience.

also being able to send you friend wii messages while playing is win.

I am not afraid to admit that I am bored enough to actually play this game a third time.

Yes, it sucks that this game is pretty much an HD port of the DS with some slight improvements. But its enjoyable enough that I WOULD play it again.

The last time I played AC was in 2006 with S_B. I then stopped playing the game and sold it to Gamestop last year.

Like any gamer who foolishly sells a game only to miss it a few weeks later I felt the hankering to mess with AC, but realized that it was gone.

AC does provide some great moments, like when me and S_B played illegal Mexicans selling imported oranges, or tarantula hunters.

Good times...good times...

I put a bid on this item a few days ago, but wouldn't say whether I was outbid or not. Heck Lloid was still saying something he had to tabulate the bids, then send out mail to the winner, and money back to the losers...

Still, it is what is, and if you look hard enough, you realize that this is a still a sick, twisted perverse game after all this time
