Eguchi: Addressing the connectivity between the DS and the Wii, if you have Animal Crossing on DS, we're assuming you spent lots of time with that character and might be attached to him -- his name, outfits, look -- so you'll be able to load that character into the Wii version and use that same character as you did in the DS game. Another thing we can do is use the DS as a means to help people who maybe don't have Wi-Fi. We've talked about Wi-Fi and how neat it is to travel from town to town and interact with friends, but if you don't have an internet connection you can take your character data and send it to your DS, bring your DS to a friend's house, and upload your character to play around in his town and interact in the same way you would if you had a direct connection t them in Wi-Fi. The third thing we've done is add the ability to download new content as they become available online -- which will help expand the universe with new furniture and things like that. Now if you don't have Wi-Fi, you can take your DS to -- at this point it's still being determined exactly how -- but an out of house destination where you can download the new content, and then bring it back to your home town and upload it. That way everyone can stay connected to the Animal Crossing world.

IGN: Just to clarify on the DS to Wii connectivity and the "friend' s house" idea you mentioned. Could players bring their DS over and play their character on their DS while their friend is on WIi playing with his in the same town, or do you upload the character and run around solo in their town?

Eguchi: Yes, let me clarify that. When you take your character data over via the DS, you're not using the DS to do any of the controlling. You can use that mode to explore the other player's town independently, but you can't play at the same time. To do that, you'll need to connect via Wi-Fi and run around with one, or two, or three of your friends as we showed earlier.

Hopefully you can import GC saves as well...

Let's say your location of the world was a place where there was rain all the time; then your Animal Crossing town would always have rain too, and one of the things about this game is that seasons change and activities change with it, so we didn't think that it would add a positive element to the Animal Crossing world if it was limited like that.

No real-time weather?! Fucking bastards!!! Sega can manage real-time weather, but Animal-Fucking-Crossing can't?! Ridiculous! It's its own world? Yeah, right, it just happens to be its own world based on your local time! Stupid, stupid, stupid!!!

Hooray! I'm really glad that they're doing downloadable content, and not expecting us to pay real money for Animal Crossing furniture.

I actually agree with him about that. If it used real weather, I'd never get snow in the game, and all the seasons would be basically the same.

Bah I'm not disappointed, the weather channel is, for me at least, inaccurate most of the time.

Yep, what shammock said re snow.

What I would like is for a southern hemisphere option to be available. Therefore it'd actually be summer and therefore hot in December. This would increase Wifi usage as well as northern hemisphere peoples could, during their winter, take the trip south to collect insects etc.

They could have included an option to use real-time weather or not then. What about when the passage of real time in general becomes a problem? A lot of people work during the day and thus never see anything but night in Animal Crossing. The development team doesn't seem to have a problem with that though.

I thought that Animal Crossing would be the thing to finally make the Weather Channel worth having on the console, but no, it's still just a waste of space.

It's nice to see some more footage, but I have to wonder why they only updated the visuals to a small extend. AC has an awesome art style, but new hardware should equal a step up graphically (for most nintendo games that is).

Other than that, I really don't have any complaints against the game. It still has the animal crossing "formula", which is oddly addicting. And wiispeak with my friends will be fun none-the-less.

Well I'm a little concerned because I really didn't find Wild World nearly as addicting as the first Animal Crossing.

Either I got tired of the formula already or something else.

well. that's a nice feature, but on the other hand, this makes me think that the A.I. and the behavior of the neighbors isn't going to be any more advanced than the DS game. I would like to see my neighbor's have more complex relationships with me and each other. A different sub plot for each one would be cool. (Like Blather's relationship with his sister and his fear of bugs)

Though I don't expect any large jumps in character A.I., I don't think that this is evidence of that...I mean, many of the characters in the DS version of the game were from the original, so it's by no means surprising to see that all the characters from the DS game will be in the Wii version...
