I haven;t beaten a single Mega Man game yet. It is true.

why are you staff?

i've beaten all nes megaman games, MM7 on SNES, MMX-X5 (x6 was so horrible i stopped playing after beating the normal bosses) and somehow found MMLegends/64 not that boring enough to beat.
I only own one MMZ game, part 3 i think, andi beat that too. still looking for the others and thinking about getting into the ZX games but.. they're just so many damn itles to catch up on!

oh, and i beat MM2 when i was 4 years old. first game to ever beat without help of my brother. Then later on in life i beat all the NES MM games on the GC compilation with the stupid fucking reversed controls. WHY CAPCOM, WHY?!?!? B WAS ALWAYS SHOOT, A WAS ALWAYS JUMP HOW DID YOU SCREW THAT UP! you just know they ported over the 360 vs where the controls are laid out "A, B" vs Nintendos classic "B, A". still pissed off about that

MM9 better be groin grabbingly old school difficult.
Why?  Other then the first Megaman, all the other ones on the NES weren't that difficult.  Yeah the others all had some area's that could be tricky at first but nothing too hard like what MM1 had.
Well, more than anything, I just wanted to use the description "groing grabbingly."

I agree though I recall MM8 being relatively easy comparatively to earlier games in the series. If Inti Creates/Capcom are going to out of their way to make MM9 look like an old-school 8-bit game, they should observe all aspects of those early games. Regardless, I'm sick of developers babying their games on Nintendo hardware because of who they think comprises that audience. Have you see the new Prince of Persia on DS? What. The. F*ck.

Mega Man X Soccer?  I remember Mega Man Soccer and it was a game with a lot of potential that failed because the design wasn't thoroughly thought out.

Too Bad because I always wanted a sequel.

What he said. I coul never get passed the fucking Wiley team, he's too damn fast!

oh and MM8 was hard for me at first because back then i was never used to the Saturn controls. I didn't even want a Saturn, my stepfather just bought one out of the blue and i'd play it every once and awhile. Wasn't till MM8 that i really put some time into it but the controls were so frustrating and i didnt have a memory card so i never got far. I'd have to play as much as i could in one sitting, which was alot considering how often i died due to shitty controls. Oh and i don't just mean the Saturns button layout, MegaMan controled like ass. He was too slow and his jumps sucked. Platforming in that game was horrible. Tengu mans stage was the worse because of the wind blowing, god i wanted to pull my hair out. I eventually beat it but i wasn't jumping for joy, i was just happy to never have to play it again.

then came the anniversary collection and i plowed right thru it because i knew what was in store. oh well.

I don't understand where all the hate comes for the X series. The first 2 (arguably 3...) games felt like classic megman. I cheris them, and i've probably played and beat MMX more times than any other game i've ever owned.

Wait, Tengu Man was in Rockman & Forte, isn't that different from Megaman 8?

Rockman & Forte was an odd recycling of Mega Man 8 assets to build a Super Nintendo featuring useless side characters.

Think along the lines of squishing Rhondo of Blood to plain Dracula X.

According to Arstechnica, Capcom told them this is a Wiiware exclusive.

Which means they'll announce ports to every other platform imaginable before it even hits the Wii.

Yes! Megaman belongs on Nintendo hardware.
If you were to design a Megaman level what would be the theme? What obstacles would you place? How hard would you make it?

I would shamelessly steal VGMap's Mega Man Solid X:  Guns of the Mavericks.

If there were a Reggie level, there would be no need to code the ending of the game.

I once filled a notebook with my own Mega Man game level and boss designs.  When Nintendo Power announced that you could send in your own Mega Man bosses for Capcom to consider, I of course sent mine in.  NP explicitly said they wouldn't be used in the then-upcoming Mega Man 5.  Then a boss with the same name and weapon as one of mine showed up in MM5.  The confusion that caused was one of the defining moments of my life, or at least of that month.

OK Pro. But what would the level look like? I would imagine that there would be in the background would have a gif of Reggie taking the names and kicking the ass of all the big name faces of opposing companys. I imagine that the music would be of various quotes Reggie made. What about the enemies? Would you just slap Reggies face on the current enemies and make them tougher? What would the Boss be like. Would the boss be Reggie and when Megaman enters Reggie says "Pwned" and Megaman dies?
Partybear what was the name of the Boss?

Spiked-Wall Man.

Sorry, the wording of your question sparked that memory.  It was Star Man.  I immediately knew it was a coincidence, of course, but I still thought it was pretty nifty at the time.

The level would start off as you face to face with Reggie, who's not unlike Guts Dozer or Apocalypse from X-Men VS Street Fighter.  But the more you shoot him, the larger he gets, and he eventually becomes the stage itself.

When you eventually deplete his life energy (if such a thing in nature is possible), the stage explodes, kills Mega Man in the familiar death ball explosion animation, and normal Reggie is revealed.

The scene ends with one remark by Reggie, "Not my problem."
