Yup, unlike most people, MM3 is my favorite as well. MM2 is easily my second favorite though.

A question to all which is better MM2 or MM3. Music, Level design, Game mechanics. Bosses, and overall?

On Charging/Sliding: They want to make this like MM2 so i guess its out. I only really used the sliding when the game forced you too, it was very rarely that i'd use it to doge. Charging though was useful when plowing thru stages. Keep your buster charged and in case something happens to pop up on screen directly in front of you where you can't doge, just let loose.

On Music: The whole MM2 sound track was awesome but one of the songs that always gets stuck in my head is BubbleMans theme, especially the version by The Advantage and this one metal version i found years ago with a really heavy bass drum (not sure who its by but it feels like an 80s metal song). Oh and speaking of metal, the first stage of Wily's fortress has some of the best music EVER

On Which is better: I'd have to say MM2 but nostalgia is a big BIG factor there. MM3 had some good moments but if i ever feel like playing an oldschool megaman game, MM2 is the one..

A question to all which is better MM2 or MM3. Music, Level design, Game mechanics. Bosses, and overall?

Music: MM2

Level Design: MM3 for the normal 8 boss stages, but MM2 had much better Wily Castle stages.

Game Mechanic: MM3

Bosses: I'd say MM2 had the better bosses in terms of designs and abilities, but MM3 had much better variety of how each boss fought.  MM2 had better Wily Bosses though as well as a much better final boss fight.

Overal: I'd probably give MM3 a very slight edge over MM2 but they're almost equal in my eyes.

I'd rank the entire Classic series like this.

MM3=>MM2>MM4>MM5>MM6>MM7>MM1>MM8

In other words, it started going downhill with MM4 and just kept going like a raging avalanche.

I've already thought Mega Man 5 was better than MM4.  That said.  MM3 is my all-time favorite.  Nothing else compares.  :)

I am replaying Mega Man with the anniversary collection.

In Mega Man I am in Wiley's Castle and it struck me that Capcom really knew how to make a final level fun and evil...but I would hate to play this game without the auto save because it is evil.

Mega Man 2 is an incredible leap above the first Mega Man.  The game is tight, but I still miss the slide.  Some of the levels are evil, but it seems to follow Mega Man logic that if it is a hard stage the boss is easier, if it is an easier stage the boss is harder situation.

Mega Man 3 I love for some of the coolest robots.  Snake Man Rocks.

And doesn't Japan get MM1 and MM2 on WiiWare to commemorate that event?

I have been extensively playing Anniversary collection.  I have to say Mega Man's graphics actually work BETTER in 8-Bit.

Mega 7 and 8 just don't feel right graphically, and as I said I am not a big fan of the X franchise.  But playing 8-Bit Mega Man I don't even feel like it is graphically inferior...it is just cool.

Level design is pretty good throughout the NES series as well...much better than 7 and 8.  I even find 6 and 5 very charming in nature.

I do have to admit that the character design in the Mega Man Battle game is pretty good.  The boss robots all have personalty and nice animations...so I guess that means Mega Man can be done well out of 8 Bit.  But it seems rare.

Everybody, Rockman 1 is going to be released on the VC in July. While Rockman 2 is going to be released in August on the VC in Japan. Just wanted to clarify since you guys were saying Wiiware.
Like Spak I too have been playing the collection. I would say I prefer MegaMan in 8 bit.

Mega Man: Dr. Wily's Revenge (Gameboy). Maybe its sequels are harder, never played them.

Actually it's sequel, Megaman 2 for the Gameboy is the easiest Megaman ever made.  I actually found it at a used videogame store last Wednesday for only $7 and played it later that night.  I started playing it at 12:45 and I beat it around 1:30.  That's right, the game only took me 45 minutes to beat on my very FIRST time playing it.  I'm guessing Capcom got so many complaints for the first one, that's why they made the sequel so easy you have to intentionally kill yourself just to lose.

Of course back to the question of hardest, I'd say MM1 for the NES.  The stages are filled with very cheap traps and jumps, like most other games released during that time.  Not to mention that enemies respawn just by moving an inch back to the left which makes certain sections that require you to jump, much more difficult then they should be.

And that was just the first 6 normal level.  Once you hit Wily's Castle the game becomes hell in videogame form and coincidentally, you have to fight the (Yellow) Devil as well, with him easily living up to his name.  And to top it off at the very end you have to fight Bombman, Fireman, Iceman and Gutsman all in a row with no energy pellots to restore part of your life in between like the later games give you  Wily himself though isn't too bad at the end which is kind of surprising considering how hard the rest of the game was.

I always thought MM3 was the most legitimately challenging MM game. MM1 seemed tough because of a bunch of unnecessary glitches.

I think the worst part of MMGB is that megaman jumps two tiles high instead of the ~4 he usually does. Having a two tile high pillar of those eyeball things flying towards you means you have to do a perfect jump to not touch them (and the same goes for any boss attempting to ram you). Oh and let's not forget Enker...
