Going back and playing the Mega Man games, I realize that the main portions of the game are really not that difficult.  I have beaten all the boss robots on Mega Man 1,2,3...and half way through 6.

The game gets crazy hard during the Wily levels, and that is when you prove whether or not you can truly play Mega Man games...and I have never beaten a Mega Man game, so I am hoping to start soon.

Play Megaman 2 for the Gameboy, I can guarantee you will beat that game.  It gives you 1Ups and E Tanks like candy, but you'll hardly ever need them because most of the bosses are extremely easy.

I noticed after Mega Man 3, 1ups are much more frequent...but 1 ups are meaningless...the big advantage is getting the E Tanks, and being able to save them.

I am close to beating Mega Man, and I dunno about 2 or 3 though.

1ups aren't entirely meaningless, you need them to get enough time to analyze a boss's pattern.

So GoNintendo is reporting...or rather stealing reports from others that Mega Man 9 will have Downloadable Content.  This is fantastic.

Mega Man 9 could mean an infinite gameplay experience.  Being able to buy the game for $10 and then perhaps downloading new levels...or even entire NES games for 5.

I love this idea...though, we really don't know what the downloadable content will be.

I am hoping for a few things though:

1)An Upgrade to give Mega Man the ability to Slide and Charge Shot.  And Also RUSH Upgrades From Mega Man 3 and more.
2)New versions of classic levels with no slow down, and classic boss battles.  These could be done in Retro Game Packs.
Mega Man 1 DC, Mega Man 2 DC, Mega Man 3 DC, Mega Man 4 DC so on, and so on.
3)New Playable characters.  Play as Protoman, An 8Bit Version of Bass, Classic Bosses such as Cut Man, or Guts Man.
4)Brand New Levels beyond the original game.

But judging by the content we usually get with megaman games (such as limited edition anniversary stuff or content on the MM collections) we'll get original MM artwork/sketches. Maybe even an interview with the game creator or an episode of the MM cartoon.

Downloadable slide or Rush powers wouldn't be good IMO, especially if they design the levels to make use of stuff you can't have normally...

how much would they even charge for downloaded SLIDE!!! No offense, but thats just a dumb idea. If it was a full package deal like 3 new levels with upgrades for Megaman that included the slide/charge buster/rush equipment, that i'd be fine with.

No it isn't totally a dumb idea.  Notice I didn't just say slide.

A Mega Man Upgrade pack with:  Slide, Charge, Rush Upgrades like Submarine, Jet, Spring, or more would be a great upgrade for $3.00

And since the game is being planned with the Upgrading in mind, the original levels could be designed with shortcuts, additional areas to explore, and what not after you buy the pack...but that pack isn't needed to beat the game.

Another means they could do those SAME upgrades is to add those features to the Classic Mega Man Level download content.  Mega Man 3 level pack could introduce Sliding, and Mega Man 4 level pack could introduce Charge Shots.

The Point is, I think we can think outside the box for Mega Man downloadable Content.  Heck, they could even add a level editor to the game...and creating quick cheap levels would be easy since the sprites will already be within the game, except for perhaps Bosses and additional enemies.

Why do you need regular MegaMan upgrades as PAID download content. I think the DLC will be levels or maybe they can pull a Mega Man Powered Up and make  a level editor and allow people to share custom levels.

My thoughts exactly. I wouldn't want to pay for something thats been in a million MM games since. As for your idea of new areas being reached with the "newly" aquired slide or whatever, i wouldnt like that either because i won't want to pay for something that should already be there. i'd rather spend my money on real content as opposed to a key that will unlock content already in the game i already purchased.

Now if we look at it another way, i wouldnt be opposed to it. Here's an example:

you're in X-man stage and notice a narrow area you just know you could squeeze into if MM had his slide, but no, you dont have it. You beat the stage, beat the game and you think you're done. No. Capcom releases a MM9+ DLC package that includes X-new levels/modes/characters as well as the ability to charge your Mega-buster AND slide. Now you go back to X-man stage, slide into that crevice you remembered and BOOM! you're in an entirely different level with new, stronger enemies (thus needing the M. Buster) and a new boss. You beat him, go back to the character select screen and now you see X-amount of empty squares that you know are new levels/bosses. You can't access them though so you start searching out new exits in the old stages. You pick Y-man's level and to your surprise, you're allowed to pick between Megaman or Protoman at the start of the level! You play around with ProtoMan and discover he has a double-jump instead of a slide, awesome! You see a ledge that you couldnt reach before... double-jump to it.. OH MAN I'M IN A NEW LEVEL!.
etc, etc.

Now i know what you're thinking Spak "thats what i said you retard!" and i agree, sort of. I just want to clarify my stance on what the DLC should be. If capcom releases MM9 and it turns out they want us to bay $3-5 for a key to unlock stuff they already coded/programmed into the original purchase... they can go **** themselves.

end rant.

First, I would not want to call anyone retard.

But here is the thing about Mega Man.  They decided to create the game with the feel of Mega Man 2...which means that for this game they decided they wanted to leave out abilities that Mega Man has had for more than half the Mega Man games available.

I actually respect that decision, because many people feel that Mega Man 2 is the best game available in the series...and if you want to play the game in those options then that is exactly what you can do and buy just the single game.

Now, if you are like me and want to play Mega Man with Slide and Charge because you like the feel of the later Mega Man games, paying a little extra for that choice may not be a bad deal...specially if it is only $3.00.

And yes, I don't feel that you should be paying for already coded stuff...but for new content, levels, enemies, bosses.

And I really like your description of opening up levels and such...it is how I envision it.

Truthfully, I just want to play the ultimate and perfect Mega Man game...and I don't want the game to end if I don't have to.  So that means.

I want to play as traditional Mega Man 2 Mega Man, but I also want to play Mega Man 4-6 sliding and Power shots, and Rush Abilities Mega Man.
At the same time I would love to explore controlling Protoman, heck even have a Mega Man Protoman two player mode.
New levels, enemies and such are a must, because with retro graphics they can make an infinite supply of levels and it not take up too much space for the Wii.

That's a lose-lose situation in my opinion.  If the game is designed without sliding in mind, then paying to add it would, frankly, be in every top ten list of useless DLC updates for the next twenty years at least.  If the game is designed with it in mind but you have to pay for it, then it will be in every top ten list of evil DLC updates for the rest of eternity.

DLC is loved if it feels like you're getting even more game, it is hated when it feels like you got less game in first place and have to buy stuff to get back to zero.
